Been to Snowshoe for the last two WC DHs, and my legs know from hiking up and down there that it certainly isn't flat, but all the racers there rank it as one of the 'flatter' courses, as there's lots of pedally sections (makes Loris ever so tired!). Certainly not the smoothest (Andorra), but it could possibly tie Les Gets as the roughest for rocks (well, maybe not this year's dirt inilled Les Gets). I think a lot of people are taking ESO and the UCI's claims that a 30 rider final and tighter times makes for a better fan experience at face value. I can see where they are coming from with these arguments, because they are basing them on other successful sports, but I don't think they're right. One of the most beautiful and compelling things about downhill racing is that there is no 'formula' for success. Unfortunately but incredibly I do not like what they are doing with EWS. Shortening the competition - not so long ago they had 6-8 sections each and two days of fighting. True endurance. Locations becoming more and more bike park-like, more and more hard-paved heavily artificial trails. What follows is less natural. I bet access to videos and photos, reports, etc. will be severely limited. And if you want it, pay dearly. Man made the coolest international race series there was. Had photographers and pros jumping there to work/ride for free cause it was exciting. then he ruined that series making it “commercial” and ruined interest in covering and watching it. I know this is kind of off-topic, but wanted again to share the appreciation for the vital slideshow. You inspired me (a proper millennial with short attention span) to re-think the way I consume content, and provided a level of depth and quality of both images and interviews that I will really miss.
