Two observations: 1. UCI could just increase the team total to 20 and 5 alternates, and this would probably accomplish getting those 30 people with points in on some team. 2. At the least, they should have an automatic exemption rule for anyone who's won a World Cup (or world championship) before. Or been top 3 multiple times, for instance. Have one generic team that has an "open" roster, and doesn't need to pay fees to catch these exemptions. The list of folks who could be on such a team isn't that large, and it really shouldn't be a dispute...

Kinda disheartening to see all kinds of crappy team politics creeping in MTB. It is not a team sport and access to World Cup should be based on individual performance. A simpler system would make more sense and be more fair. Let's have a couple of continent qualifiers open to everybody (and broadcasted as a wc by WCool anybody in the top 20 got a ticket to race wc. Teams then organize themselves around whoever can race.. We are going to see the value of WC racing dilute itself through the years..

"can’t even make an effort to reply to emails or messages" Is the take away ghosting is a weak mans way of dealing with things. Sam has had many closers with sponsors over the years I don't remember a time he spoke ill of any them after. I'm inclined to believe Sam.

For those playing along at home, here’s where we stand with the most ridiculous rumors so far… #3 - Phoebe Gale off FMD, going to Reece Wilson’s new AON team, after being prominently featured in the Orbea FMD press release. #2 - Aaron Gwin back to mentor the kids on lower budget Trek Factory after becoming a partner in Crestline bikes last year. #1 - Old man Dan Atherton returning to stomp $$$ DH podiums on a prototype belt drive after his most recent 57th at a 2018 Crankworx stop. There’s a few others close to the top 3, but...

I like it personally, not everything needs to be blacked out like the Spesh tents at the races.

Wouldn't bet against it at this stage, given how UCI/Ballbag have shafted the series.

Some people said GT actually went away when Richard Long passed in 1997, as he was the heart and soul and driving force of the company, who shaped it into what it was in its glory days. I tend to agree, even if the last part of the 90's was pretty good rider-wise and bike-wise, with good results and good innovation. Apparently one thing that made GT different to other brands was the fact that Richard Long, the head honcho, would travel all year long across the country and talk to the dealers, learn from their needs and take notes...

You know how rich dorks move into the cool neighborhood and then start complaining about the nightclub’s noise and the neighborhood starts sucking and becomes lame and they’re all looking around like what? That’s what this feels like. Union embodied the passion that truly drives the sport. Their whole thing was to help, not to earn. Pricing them out is not better for anyone.

I agree with you. What a fuckin waste. I gave them the benefit of the doubt the first year and even paid to watch. Last year I pirated it out of spite and will continue to do so until they actually make a positive impact on the sport.

Top comment from the other site pretty well sums up my thoughts on everything (exclusive of the last sentence, I’ll probably still watch because I’m an absolute mug)… ‘WBD keeps saying these changes are good for the sport, but I’ve never been less excited for a new season of World Cup. I have no plans to watch.’

I was going to private message you but you have it turned off. I don’t disagree wcs needed their fields cut down for logistical reasons. I do disagree greatly with how the eso is doing it. And disagree greatly that their goals align in reality with riders best interests. But hey if a company that’s nearly 50 billion in debt and a race director who effectively destroyed the majority of professional opportunities in the race series that made him famous doesn’t deserve criticism and caution well I simply don’t know who does. Thanks for correcting me on the origins of...

I think the thing that makes people suspicious of WBD and UCI is that WBD and UCI keep doing suspicious things (including well-documented meetings with certain team managers but not all team managers and forcing them into NDAs as tight as not revealing anything even to athletes on their own teams in order to be in those meetings). Entertainment execs, promoters, and UCI bureaucrats will absolutely do the right thing. Definitely! I love the one run do-or-die aspect of DH. If the light is still green when you cross the line you’re fastest. Boom. No judges, no deliberations, no monkeying around. The changes we’ve seen and heard about wrest some of a rider’s fate from their hands. Clock isn’t as important. The teams will own the points now, diminishing every rider’s worth. Managers are already on showing up on the broadcast—look for them to take more shine from the true stars…the TV producers own the whole thing and...

Ahhh his Messi point is silly because it's the SECOND bullet, not the FIRST. 🤣 The more this guy posts in defense of WBD, the more I'm convinced it's Ball's burner account.

The difference between the 2 is that Red Bull's events are private events, organised, produced & broadcast by them. They can invite whoever they want, no one can argue otherwise. WBD are organising World Cups on behalf of the UCI, the world governing body for competitive cycling events. They should be completely neutral & the only way to be free from bias/influence is to go off points for all teams. Personal opinion... I don't agree with handing control of the highest level of a sport to a TV production company to shape it how they want. I think I might've...
