Can I patent the ole one eye squint? For real tho, equalizing the gap on each side between the sanctions and bars is way easier than aligning the stem with the tire.

i just want to make one last comment re: deleting pics, community etc then i'll be quiet. over the last few years, i've become very aware of how much of a privilege it is to be a part of a community that is supported by some of the best brands in our game. but the key word here is community...YOU all are the community. without you and your sleuthing, your knowledge, your stoke for the sport and its equipment, or your informed opinions, vital wouldn't be very special. with that said, if all vital does is bow down to brands...

WAO released a limited run of stems and bars today, available on their website https://www.weareonecomposites.com/en-us/products/the-bar-stem https://www.weareonecomposites.com/en-us/products/the-stem I'm assuming these are the bars they showed off last year at Sea Otter and never appeared again until now. The stem looks like it's slightly different from the previous version, as well.

I think the lever blade is also shorter and maybe compatible with Tech 4. Am I the only one that doesn't really like the long one? The brakes feel really good, though.

I’ll be honest, that big of a change in master cylinder diameter doesn’t sound wonderful. Comparing the distance you’d have to move the master cylinder to move the pads the same amount, it’s a 56% increase. That’s a lot of lever throw… one conclusion I’ve come to is that massive power and good lever feel aren’t really attainable without decreased pad retract. Swing link kind of gets you there but there’s a stiff portion of lever throw it has to move through.

Man, thanks for sharing all that info! It's interesting to hear the different feedback on the radials. We are hearing that for heavier riders in hard terrain, the casing can squirm in those high load cornering situations you refer to, even at increased pressure. In softer or mixed terrain where average speeds are lower, they seem to perform well.

I have definitely done this. Also came across a guy on trail whose chain was routed wrong through the pulleys. He said he wondered why his drivetrain sounded so much louder lol

Some neat stuff in here. I know Vital doesn't have the budget to send someone to China for an extended period of time, but would be interesting to have a series covering the China scene (riders, small builders, trails etc).

Fuck those cranks. There's SUCH a good structural reason why holes in cranks are a bad idea, with the exception of the sram cranks. The reason that all those 5dev cranks break despite not being very lightweight is 100 level shit, and I hate that the mtb industry is stupid enough to entertain it. A 2 dimensional truss structure is fucking terrible in torsion, and most of the crank arm sees a LOT of torsion. Then you've got all the stress concentrations with all the internal corners, and that multiplies your max stresses by a lot again. The reason why...

Got these in the mail the other day from the UK. Heard some rumblings about the looks on here, they do look decidedly old school but I’m excited to see another player in the game. Will report back once I finally get them mounted.

Some of you never rode when we had no clutches so the loose, flopping chain smashed against every part of your aluminum bike and the fork knocked in the 1 1/8th head tubes and then echoed through your monocoque frame and it shows. I can barely hear my current bike compared to the 3rd grade marching bands on wheels we used to ride pre-2012. I didn't even know you could hear what your tires were doing for the first 10 years I rode.

Weighting hands sucks. Such a not fun way to ride. I will transfer a little weight to my hands, but I want to ride through my feet. I think the rise in collar bone breaks caused by front wheel wash is caused by this trend in riding (especially when paired with clipless setups that I see as being necessary for that geo/riding style.) I like a full geo thread because most of the Long Rear Center folks are really just asking for bikes they can ride more upright and through their feet, which requires higher stacks, which lowers weight on...

To be fair, it's also possible that competitively priced and highly specialized manufacturing will pop up in the U.S. at enormous scale with armies of knowledgable, specialized non-immigrant workers in the next month to save us from these high costs. That's all we need. Well, that and in-country raw material extraction for materials that often don't exist in our borders in the quantities we need, like bauxite, rubber, lithium, cobalt, rare earth elements, etc. But if we can figure out those two aspects in the next month we'll be fine.

I mean, even with just around 10 hours of riding I can confidently say I'm not going back. The only thing which is marginally worse is a little bit of rear tire butt buzz on steep stuff. On fast stuff, loose stuff, sketchy stuff, tight stuff, I would go into a section feeling like I was pushing it, sail through, and once I got through think "man, I could have gone faster". The few times I felt like I hit the limit were on loose, off-camber turns, and I ended up just drifting to the outside until the tires hooked...
