I dont think the course was too technical, i just dont think they should line those sections with rock walls. Theyd have more line options if they left that boulder field open without the rock barriers. The technicality would still be there, which is great in mtb, but those inbedded rock walls are unnecessary hazards, excessive consequences

I didn't read everything but have been around the sport long enough to have seen "this sort of thing" before. Few observations. 1) Our opinion really doesn't matter. 2) The riders are going to do what the riders want to do. 3) From a sponsor/event perspective, this works. Look how many comments this has drummed up between instagram, YouTube, Vital, PB etc. If awareness is the goal, they already won. 4) I think Evil Knievel stunts take away from the coolest part of the actual sport, but again, I'm a couch QB. Maybe… just maybe,,, now stay with me here… she (and the other pros saying the same thing) has a valid point that the liaison times were unrealistically short and us armchair racers should refrain from speculating on her (and other pro athletes who do this for a living) fitness levels and take them at their word that they know what they’re talking about and the liaison times were, indeed, unrealistically short.

Why is there no option about notifying the race commissioner in your poll? Assuming it's a small regional race? Contact the race officials with you info, let them confront the racer.

I was the one who broke the Scalpel, and I’m not surprised I did - overshot the landing of a large jump for an XC bike, landing in the pocket between the landing and the flat ground after it. Huge bottom out. I corrected Kaz at Pinkbike’s quote - he had flatteringly guessed me to be 190lbs, whereas I am 220lbs. Nothing fishy. I wholeheartedly believe the Scalpel is fit for purpose and that it was my fault! Was having far too much fun and got carried away.

Fuck all these corporate apologist telling riders they should be greatful for what they get. That they arent irreplacable. That they arent worth more. Fuck all that noise. Get paid lads. Godspeed.

Totally agree with you Mitch. Thank you for your first hand input. I made an account just for this topic alone. These guys are risking EVERYTHING to do what they do and they shouldn't be forced into a state of poverty if they're good enough to be dropping into some of the biggest events in this sport. I hope redbull and crankworx see this thread and I hope a collaboration can be had to make a change for these premier athletes so they can have a sense of security to continue doing what they love. The new statement from Rogatz makes it seem like this situation has been brought up multiple years at Rotorua. What I can't be sure of is if they got pay increase each year and were appeased in some ways. But it sounds like they've been at it for a while now and this has come as a last ditch effort to fix the event. And I'd assume it has a lot to do with the lower guys on the totem pole walking away in the negative. I'm not sure how far down you have to be to start basically losing...

Love all these people claiming that the riders are wrong for asking for this. These guys put their life on the line for crankworx and redbull to make money. They should receive an appearance fee. It’s the pinnacle of the sport. I sure as hell wouldn’t be doing backflips off two story buildings, but I’d race the same track that the downhill guys do. So don’t make that comparison.

We can't speak for Aletha and Taylor (aka The Ostgaards), but we did get an ok from them to post here on this topic. V+R's best understanding is that Aletha chose to leave TFR for different opportunities and TFR chose to end Taylor's contract. Events appeared to have happened in that order. V+R Racing will be the podium hat sponsor for both sisters again in '24. We're super stoked to sign them for another season! They are also riding for GoPro and Smith. They are back on their Treks, but Trek is not currently one of their sponsors. Massive kudos...
