I was the one who broke the Scalpel, and I’m not surprised I did - overshot the landing of a large jump for an XC bike, landing in the pocket between the landing and the flat ground after it. Huge bottom out. I corrected Kaz at Pinkbike’s quote - he had flatteringly guessed me to be 190lbs, whereas I am 220lbs. Nothing fishy. I wholeheartedly believe the Scalpel is fit for purpose and that it was my fault! Was having far too much fun and got carried away.

Totally agree with you Mitch. Thank you for your first hand input. I made an account just for this topic alone. These guys are risking EVERYTHING to do what they do and they shouldn't be forced into a state of poverty if they're good enough to be dropping into some of the biggest events in this sport. The new statement from Rogatz makes it seem like this situation has been brought up multiple years at Rotorua. What I can't be sure of is if they got pay increase each year and were appeased in some ways. But it sounds like they've been at it for a while now and this has come as a last ditch effort to fix the event. Love all these people claiming that the riders are wrong for asking for this. These guys put their life on the line for crankworx and redbull to make money. They should receive an appearance fee. It’s the pinnacle of the sport. I sure as hell wouldn’t be doing backflips off two story buildings, but I’d race the same track that the downhill guys do. So don’t make that comparison.

We can't speak for Aletha and Taylor (aka The Ostgaards), but we did get an ok from them to post here on this topic. V+R's best understanding is that Aletha chose to leave TFR for different opportunities and TFR chose to end Taylor's contract. Events appeared to have happened in that order. V+R Racing will be the podium hat sponsor for both sisters again in '24. We're super stoked to sign them for another season! They are also riding for GoPro and Smith.
