The problem with internal cable routing really comes down to the fact that suspension forks currently don't allow for hidden hoses. I think, based on what happened in road and gravel, that if that possibility existed, headset cable routing would become extremely common. I think a lot of brands were worried about the sales floor problem that happened with road bikes of having a rats nest compete with an integrated bike. Imagine how much money some brands lost as a result of that. Add to that, they are in a position where they have to predict the future, and they...

I briefly test rode 32" XC and gravel bikes already, and altough the later one felt a bit odd with that much wheel, a very slack head angle and narrow handlebars... The XC bike, wich was set up with an integrated handlebar designed for 29ers (so, parallel-ish to the ground stem and flat handlebar with moderate width and angles...) felt awesome to me, very "normal", stable in a way that would appeal to the average trail and enduro biker (or ebiker...) still quick and reactive... but of course, I am just no one with an opinion and 5'9" of height

I've sold a small handful of XTR bikes this year, and we've had a fair number of them come back with broken rings. We have near constant complaints about Shimano brakes being significantly louder than other models, and have yet to manage a consistent way to quiet them down, even after investing in a bedding machine. Shimano went proprietary for their freehub even though it was extremely obvious that they could have used HG or paid into XD. Their road 12s systems are on HG still. The new "UDH" achieves nothing. The current UDH has a shelf at the bottom...

I would like to see who, on a global scale, thinks they need NEED all the software "calculations" on their bike? Is the bike industry 2.0 really competing at the software level now? Suspension, components, geometry, etc. has all leveled off, so now it's software? "Well my bike calculates X, and shows it here. Does yours?" is that really a selling point? Do data and dashboards make my ride better? Are you taking suggestions? I'd like one that says I dabbed 5 times on that climb. Billy90210 did it five minutes ago and had no dabs. And adds: Ha sucker...

I'm a pretty big Bafang motor fan. Have 2 Vitus E-Mythique bikes that have the M510. Both have over 1500 miles on them. The best thing is the ability to repair them yourself. They make them super easy to work on and parts are readily available (although you have to wait on them from overseas). Both of my motors have been through at least 1 if not 2 power distribution boards in the motor (all because of water ingress, not entirely their fault). The board is 15 bucks and takes about an hour to change. I keep one on the...

You didn't even paraphrase it - you entirely took it out of context from someone else "quoting it" out of context. More so you're applying confusing your idea of an "intellectual" with actual scientific method / data analysis which is like saying all plants must be trees. Are there some intellectuals who have nothing but ideas and no actual experience? Sure. How many of those are scientists? Who knows! But the scientific method is the exact opposite of what you're saying - and clearly you don't have any actual experience with it because the point isn't to align data or...

First of all, this is an exceptional article that is well done, is not even biased towards e-bikes and it puts some facts and data to the comparison between the two I was on team anti-E bike for years thinking how core I was & that E's were for newbs and lazy people. But after a catastrophic knee injury & multiple surgeries, an E was the only thing that kept me moving outdoors in my beautiful mountains (gravel roads) vs sitting on a fan bike in my house... my sense of gratefulness to even be out on simple zero-gnar gravel...

Except Orwell never actually said that at all, so get back on your Google machine and do some research because you are actually talking about yourself & your ideas, not Orwell or this article... did you even read it? What Orwell was talking about at the time was some intellectuals who supported totalitarianism – and obviously this article is about Ebikes - with data - and making strong point about training zones, so your quote & logic here is about as relevant and sharp as a spent chainring

Posted this before, posting again... The old EWS points and event qualifier structure was a great example of a transparent, feasible ladder for talented and motivated riders to climb into the elite field. EWS points were earned at sanctioned local, regional and national level events each with their own points tier and value table. I remember on the website from 2018-2020 there were pages and pages of races you could earn points. An EWS license was about 30USD to get an account and start earning. It seemed that race organizers were welcomed with fair terms to have their races sanctioned...

Kona seems kinda fucked imo. I don’t see what they can do to bounce back (I really hope they do). The current bikes are solid but need some small geo updates. Do they copy and paste, and make the 153 and 134 a basic four bar, slightly slack then out, a little more stack, longer CS, and slightly more progression? Not hard and a proven formula, but it’s getting into bland territory. Either way Horst-ing them will make them objectively better. The other hot non e-bike seller is a downcountry bike, but at this point is the market kind of...

Part of the reason this thread has gone on so long is that we’re not just talking/thinking about what cycling looked like in the rearview mirror but we’re also speculating about what comes next while trying to use the lens of yesteryear to draw a trend line. Of course kids can have fun without motors. They can also have fun without suspension, disc brakes, derailleurs, stryder bikes, BMX bikes, dirt bikes, chairlifts, or half the other stuff we happily buy them. The whole “I had fun without it” isn’t much of an argument against a new product category. My point...

Why not, instead of crank arms, make crank discs? Solid 304 stainless steel. You could put several holes in there, offset, so you can choose different “crank lengths” just by switching your pedals into different threaded holes. Adds weight, centered right around the bottom bracket. Ultimate bash guard as well! I should be an engineer. I’d succeed big time (or not).
