I know I’m in the minority here but I’d take a slightly cheap feeling shifter that feels like a shifter over one that feels like adjusting the volume on a cheap bluetooth speaker any day.

Honestly I'm happy for Jordan. Guy had a rough year coming out of juniors after doing so well. Seems like such a nice kid too. Stoked to see Reece's finish but Jordan gapped him... 2 second lead with timings that tight is wild! Hope Reece or Hattie get the belted purse soon.

As long as this is now an "innovation of CVTs for bikes" thread, I think it's key to point out that the conventional 1x12 drive train is roughly constant efficiency in all gears, slight worse for cross-chaining, and slight worse for smaller cogs due to increased internal friction in the chain links bending around small cogs. There's data for this kind of thing online. When we are talking about gearboxes with and without CVTs, we still have to pay most of the efficiency loss that a conventional drivetrain sees, since we still need a belt or chain to reach from...

It wont this year. They made the mistake of designing it without a gearbox. Scrapping the whole lower half of the bike.

It might help if when people spoke about gearboxes they phrased it in a way that expressed why they thought they were a good idea, as opposed to screaming at people about why they were wrong about gearboxes.

Things break. This isn't an uncommon theme among mechanical things. Just because some work for the service interval doesn't mean that every one leaving the factory will. When you function on the scale of these larger brands, these things become a problem and a consideration. I can go into any LBS and buy a rear mech almost anywhere in the world, how do you deal with that with gearboxes when something fails or needs replacement? Consider this across 10s of thousands of bikes and you start to see the problem. There's also a huge difference between loyalty to rear mechs...

True. But again I'm just confused about the ratio here. No-one has answered my question about high pivot, instead deflecting to say "it sucks for XC bikes". Fair, it is heavier and allegedly less efficient, but I had the impression there's also a large proportion of people in this thread that follow and ride 150+mm travel bikes. These bikes have gotten way heavier and less efficient over the years, so my confusion stems from why do people immediately dismiss a gearbox bike? The drag thing is much more noticeable on the internet than actually riding one.. Fair on the "dissing"...

I think part of the problem is that "MTB" covers a really diverse range of riding styles, and for the different styles, a variety of engineering requirements and interests. It's easy for people (myself included) to only consider the style(s) of riding they do when they promote or bash posts. I agree that there might be interesting trickle-down technology from the latest "moped" innovations in MGUs for predominantly gravity-driven forms of pedal MTBs. While the idea of a gearbox that is comparable in weight in efficiency to a conventional 1X drive train is exciting, from the engineering side of things...

How many root canal do I need to perform to be able to afford one ? Is the downtube storage called the floss box and if not why ? Is that turquoise Chris King headset stock on all build kits ? Is the LT 180mm dual crown compatible ? I am counting atleast 14 bearings counting the trunion one ? Is Yeti following SC and Spec footstep and giving out first owner free replacement bearing ? Single chainstay length on all size or they grow with frame size & the replaceable dropout give the option for longer chainstay. Most likely...

Have any of you actually ridden an Amflow bike? I have (gen 1), and the frame rides great for its intended purpose. Its an all mountain bike, not super-enduro. I'd say it rides as good or better than something like the Levo. The flexiness is just fine. About right for a bike of that travel and intended terrain.

I have no insider info... but IME burgtec is up there with renthal in terms of the stiffest handlebars I've ever ridden. My assumption is that they are running 31.8 to try and get back into a more reasonable compliance window. I never thought a handlebar could be so stiff that it would wreck me... but my most recent time on either brands 35mm alloy bars has proven otherwise. Maybe things have changed in the last 3 years as that was the last time I ran either.

Shut the fuck up about drivetrain efficiency. Holy shit. Go find a different thread.

He’s suggesting that the benefits of electronic suspension would offset the negatives of pedalling with a high pivot bike. People complain about pedalling a high pivot bike. But if other parts of the bike were more efficient, and it brought you to an acceptable level of efficiency of current bikes, would people complain less?

I wonder if some of the big cycling brands "survive" by being bought by Chinese capital as a vehicle into the rest of the world/brand credibility. We've already seen this in a somewhat small scale in the automotive space (although not so much in the US Market compared to Europe, so you can simmer down Americans) and I can certainly imagine a world where this happens to something like Trek. Maybe Chinese brands will have no interest in doing so when they can undercut traditional brands by about half, for now, if they want. On the Cannondale note, maybe it's...
