With the Genie it's a step change that occurs when the stroke of the shock is big enough for the additional ports to be closed off. With the Aria, a triple chamber shock (same tech is available in forks), the spring is a continuous curve that is adjusted. Okay I hate proprietary stuff as much as the next guy but this shock is not proprietary, its a normal stroke and eye to eye shock you can put any other shock in its place. If you were going to say anything is proprietary on this bike its the drivetrain more than the shock, it can only be replaced with other wireless drivetrains from Sram. If anything is representative of the mountain bike industry its moving to wireless drivetrains exclusively, lets take a system that has worked great with a 25 cent cable and replace it with a wireless battery...

Just saw on the PB article that there’s no routing option for a cable drive train on the new stumpy. What the fuck is wrong with these people.

RE: New Stumpy... My big takeaway is when the company who arguably has the largest capex budgets in the industry keeps outputting new models that are small evolutions (Epic EVO, new Stumpy, don't forget Jordan beat Finn/Loic on the "old" demo last season), not revolutions, that tells me we've really hit a plateau of technological progression. This isn't a bad thing, per se, unless you are in the business of selling bikes to bike nerds who used to think they needed the latest/greatest every year. FWIW, this has also happened in the moto, snowmobile, ski, road bike etc world, too...

I have an unreleased 140/150mm bike in the shop that comes stock with a Fox 36 and Mavens type build kit with a completely new inline fox shock with the bike manufacturers logo on it and a HUGE air can. It's very strange to see an inline shock on a build like this so I'm interested in whats going on with it. Apparently next week we'll know. It kind of looks like an RP23 with a high volume air can but 1.5x the size

I should have been a bit more clear- I think the new stumpy that’s coming out is going to be fine if it has a yoke. The new shocks are tougher too- all brands. Older designs (bikes and shocks) are more fragile for sure. Monarchs were/are super fragile and had a high warranty rate. I think that is fairly well known. Keep complaining- some companies read this stuff!

The price is absolutely unjustified. When NOBL can build you a set of DT 180's laced to premium carbon hoops for less than $2000.

For the Hope T4 V4 users: I 3d printed some of the Hope open source tools here and thought I'd offer some commentary: https://www.hopetech.com/open-source-tools/ I had some fitment issues with the Intends I wanted to run on my G1 (the wide caliper strikes the base of the HAWK30X spokes slightly, so I had to rethink the brakes I was using), so I went with Hope T4 V4s as my second choice. I had some issues getting the bleed dialed in, I managed on the first set a while back to install them without bleeding but wasn't so lucky this time...
