Jonathan Helly just keeps winning on the 2024 WAO prototype DH bike. Now he's the latest Canadian DH National Champion, and took last (3) Dunbar series races in a row. It would certainly be in consideration for "the" hot new DH bike of the year if only WAO was on the World Cup circuit, still making frames and made it available to the public... Oh what could have been.

I'm going to take a moment to lay out a real tech based reason that a dual shock bike could be useful. Not because I think it's where this bike was going and not because I necessarily think it's a good idea. Just for the fun of it. Each shock has its own leverage curve. You could use this to create an effective leverage curve anywhere between the two by proportionally changing the amount of support you are getting from each shock. Let's say one leverage curve was 30% progression and the other was 10%... you could alter how each...

No, the two shocks are in parallel, not series. Having them in series would make it half as stiff. Having them parallel makes it much stiffer still.

Seems like surprisingly few people actually know about what's going on with the the X2 problem, so I took some pics today of the new design next to the current (old?) design, both taken off the same bikes. (new eyelet body on the left) the old eyelet measured ~1.7mm thick at the threads, new one measures ~4.4mm. the new design doesn't extend any further down the damper body than the old design, so I'm pretty hesitant this redesign will actually help the current problem. other details because I already had them out; the bleed port has moved, the inside of...

Our shop has rebuilt/warrantied more of this generation X2s than I can count. initially it seemed like the issue was sloppy assembly QC leading to loctite being left on the damper shaft, marring up the main piston seals. However eventually we (and seemingly everyone else, other than fox) figured out it's an issue with the damper body actually cracking where the threads start at the eyelet. this was much more of a problem on the trunnion models, specifically on split rocker style linkages, a la transition sentinel/patrol. After months of shocks blowing up out of the box, fox has finally...

Doesn't really surprise me, the fact Fox has done nothing about it doesn't surprise me either. I've realised Fox is a marketing company that has a side hustle of building shocks.

I think a bunch of companies are moving to that going forward. I know on all of Treks literature they've moved to a V.# kind of thing instead of year numbers so far, like the new Fuel EX is the Gen 6 and the new Domané is the Gen 3 I think.

all - cut the petty ebike/non-ebike bullshit in here. battle all you want in a diff thread. if it's not a legit discussion about the bikes or the tech, beat it to somewhere else.

Nerds! Wink I'll buy a brake for a myriad of reasons, but what fluid is in them is not going to be the determining factor (at all). I do hope someone does an updated test like this with all the new stoppers... https://enduro-mtb.com/en/best-mtb-disc-brake-can-buy/

First of all, ask Shimano brake owners about black mineral oil, they could give you some pointers lol. Second of all, dot fluid doesn't have higher boiling point than high quality mineral oils or alternatives like danico biotech. Motorsport fluids are close fresh out of bottle, but nowhere near once they absorb a bit of water. Not to mention motorsport fluids are always too viscous for MTB brakes in the first place. Dot has one theoretical advantage and that comes with hygroscopic nature of it, any water that gets in the system will be evenly spread across the whole volume...
