A higher stack is going to be better than a lower stack, everything else being equal, but it’s not a full solution. With a higher stack, it’s harder to get your weight forward and actually weight the front wheel on techy climbs and into turns. It’s more comfortable because you’re not forced either into a deep squat or a pike plank position as much. But it’s not going to change the basic fact that a standing rider will always have the overwhelming majority of their weight supported via their feet and thus distributed between the two contact patches according to...

The whole “taller riders have more of their mass forward of the bottom bracket” thing doesn’t at all track for me for three reasons. First, taller riders have the same limb/torso proportions are shorter riders, so their mass is going to be distributed on their body the same way. Humans have roughly the same arm span as height and our femurs are roughly 1/4th of our height, pretty much across the board. Obviously, there is variance between individuals, but it’s not like tall people are just people with really long shins. (We’re not talking about a cromegaly, I’m assuming.) Second...

What a thorough testing protocol! I'm on Avy front and rear and really pleased with the service and performance so will be sticking with it; but will acknowledge that I don't have the time & $ to test all of these options. Not many people do, so we have to rely on various online comparisons/ opinion/ reviews/ etc. Thanks for doing it!

In the time since this thread started, my Gen 2 Optic let go, so I'm upgrading to a carbon Sight under warranty. I'm converting it to 29/29 with the missing link kit and bringing my build over minus the suspension. Very interested to compare and contrast with largely identical parts and on the same trails.

I think it’s a good platform to test a Cane Creek Tigon.

I would be curious to see how Shimano BL-M4100 levers fare in a Shaven setup. After spending too much time reading about Shigura setups this fall, I stumbled upon a German thread in which people were advocating for the cheaper, non-servowave levers for a more linear feel with good power. The more expensive non-servowave, XTR Race levers lack the power...

I’ve never ever heard 5010 hype like the last 2 days of this thread. It actually makes me want to try one bad. I ride a previous gen sight 27.5. Bought it when the 27/29 wars were happening, and before mullet, and I ended up on the wrong side of history lol. I really wish I folded to the hype and bought a 29” sight. I’ve recently been riding several (slightly) shorter travel 29 bikes and always feel so so much easier on the climbs. Do mid travel mullets climb like a 27 or a 29? Or somewhere in the...

Off topic but everyone in BJJ is on juice, it’s like saying Ronnie Coleman isn’t the greatest bodybuilder cuz of PEDs. You have to assume a lot of mtb racers are on PEDs, there’s no way the testing is any good. They can’t even figure out how to route a b line.

Do they envision the new system having any applicability to non-DH bikes? Otherwise, it seems like it would be a hell of a R&D investment for what must be a limited market segment (i.e. uber-expensive DH bikes). *Not that there would be anything wrong with that. A company pouring money into hole with the aim of making something cool rather...

You can get to simmilar riding position with a fairly normal bike too. At least if you have moderately long chainstays. It is basically what Goldstone is doing. What reverse stem allows you to is running a looong wheelbase, which at least for DH is probably quite benefical, but you need a bike build for it. As someone who likes to ride very upright, but hates long bikes basically I just picked the bike with the shortest reach I feel comfortable running and longest chainstays I could get and it works fairly well. With short reach you only kinda run...

One thing missing here is the fact that with the proliferation of composite know how, there are more people around able to safely repair a wider range of issues. Rather than pretending we are recycling carbon bikes I’d love to see more frames designed in ways that facilitate repair. Repair is verifiable in a way that recycling is not, it is cost effective for everyone concerned, and it is as close as you’ll get to good for the environment. It probably flows on to other design decisions to ensure repair is viable (like bearing placement, etc etc), but designing bikes...

What if it was commissioned at a price point that became entirely unviable in the USA due to tariffs and got remarketed as China only?
