Not to beat the new Saint 12sp chain dead horse but I think we saw not one but two possibly career ending crashes at Whistler because of chains snapping. Both on SRAM, which uses the T-type 12 speed chain I think? Why are we not using the beefiest chain possible for 7 or 8 speed drivetrains?

Kiefer's chain didn't snap, he smashed his chainring on the last jump in the woods.

It did snap: "lost the chain" also you can see the chain clearly flying off at the beginning of the other site's video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-w1oI60PEs
Smoking the chainring (+ chain) against a rock can do that. It's not a case where it snapped out the start gate or something where it broke from pedaling torque.
You can see the dust from the rock strike that damaged the chain. For some reason he wasn't running a bashguard, or maybe it broke off from the same rock strike. No surprise that the chain broke.

I would also like to know this. Back those claims up!
There was also another rider that snapped (or it broke or whatever) coming into a massive drop. It’s really not a stretch of the imagination that coming off a large drop with almost no control could result in some very serious injuries. All it takes is a little over the bars whoopsie and some spinal compression… even if you land two wheels first you can (and people have been this year in WC events) get unlucky and flip over on the rebound.
That said i have no opinion on chains and there supposed durability or lack there of.

The original post said "possibly career ending crashes", they didn't say that two careers were ended by crashes this weekend. They're talking about Henry Kiefer's crash and Bode Burke's crash, and it's not too hard to imagine how crashing off those two drops could end in a double femur or spinal cord situation that you never fully recover from. I was talking to Bode after his Q1 crash and he thought both of his legs were going to break on impact.
Definitely hard to ignore two SRAM XX DH drivetrain failures leading to very similar and terrifying crashes!
New Specialized Enduro will drop early summer of 2027.
It will come specced with a genie zeb fork.
It will have a Genie vivid air, that is mounted vertically directly in front of the seat tube. The rear layout will look similar to a 2012 era Demo 8, but with a link that comes around the seat tube to the top of the shock.

I had heard about it looking like a Demo 8, but vertical shock is new.
Genie zeb sounds interesting, but is it needed? I know some people liked the RS genie stuff because the linear nature matched better with their linear xl forks vs when Fox was doing genie and their current versions of forx.

Agreed, Genie Zeb seems nonsense. It's already very linear, and you can use the ABO to adjust bottom out resistance (up/down).

Im gonna hold out for the Genie tuned mass damper and the Genie O-Chain

Vertical shock would be kinda wild tbh, all their bikes have had horizontal shocks since forever. It’s been a big part of visually distinguishing their bikes ever since the fsr patent expired, gotta assume it plays into suspension characteristics too. What was the last vertical shock specialized bike, the 2012 pitch?
So, rumor is that Orbea is changing the rear triangle for next year to have a bridge and be a bit stiffer. That will be good for them to do since it seems like flex is one of the biggest grips on the frame and the tire rubbing bad.
Did anyone else catch two different Orbeas snap in half at the world up?
Heard recently from reliable sources (Yeti was someone working with them and Atherton was a mechanic)-
Yeti is making some revisions and will be releasing what should be next spring. Will have a few minor changes to what we see being raced currently
Atherton gearbox will be released as well. Fine tuning some smaller details regarding cable routing, tensioner type stuff, etc. The little details getting sorted and then it should release next year too

This was the justification on specialized using the "ilder-not-idler" approach, rather than anything about a higher pivot location (Finn roasted his chaining at MSA during his race-winning run)

Heard of 2 also, saw a pic of one in the back of a patroller utv. Snapped 1/3 way down behind the head tube, clean off at the top tube folded on the down tube

Career ending? Care to elaborate?
You guys like rumors ?
What’s going on with the nukeproof rear end ?
Seems like it could almost be release with the milled out chain stay.

The solution is clearly gearbox and beltdrive.

A bit of self promotion here... but here is a downhill bike I've been developing for those interested!
Distributors for EXT apparently received information for the ERA V3 matching the style of the new shock and Vaia. Expect to drop soon.
Any rumor on if/when a Yeti "ST" is coming?

Orbea from the whistler DH thread:

Well well well... Specialized ditching a yoke is certainly a great sign of the future.
Is this the other snapped Orbea? https://youtu.be/ZGh9UKRU_50?si=4nNJEtXOtthwSNOV&t=61
