My Italian is a little rusty, but it seems this was made using a servo from the RC world, connected to some kind of stroke measuring device on the brake lever blade. The idea being to change the compression settings of the shock under different types of braking events.

Now that is cool. RC servos are pretty quick for their intended applications. This is a way better idea than wireless brakes.

Really cool. I understood (italian is pretty good but technical stuff goes over my head) the goal is to optimize suspension performance for every phase of cornering- opening compression under braking, back to neutral/baseline while rider is neither braking nor pedaling, then stiffening compression when the crankset is under forward load to maximize forward drive. I.e. theoretically providing gains on both corner entry and exit. Proper active suspension system.

Blasting up fireroads at 20mph is SO sick. So rad.

1st gen M1 can do it too, but I found it still to be quite buggy. It messes with the non-HR-modes. Also I've found that my HR isn't lower on the DH so I often get more Power on the DH then on the climbs. Stopped using the feature because of that.

Continuous damping adjustment within an existing suspension system based on braking inputs is interesting, but it isn't active suspension.  Active suspension controls ride height using positional actuators and does away with springs and dampers entirely.

There’s a DH being released in about a month. When it’s released the full range of build kits won’t be available until spring of 27’ because of certain drivetrain and brake components.

And I bet that downhill bike will be the Norco team!  Should  good timing to release that with the World Cup just happening and hardline right around the corner and having riders and both!  This is just speculation but I can’t imagine they’re being a more perfect release time for any Bike right now

In Pompom’s bike check on pink bike it was initially mentioned that her frame has 220mm of travel and that they can run the fork with either 200 or 220mm of travel (saying she chose 200 for Val di sole). It has since been updated and only mention that the frame has 220mm travel. I wonder if it was a mistake from pinkbike or if they were asked to remove this info…

That looks like the production boxxer, so I would think that it's a mistake, the only fork in the world cup right now that has more than 203mm is the Dorado proto that Aon is on, and I believe that it's 210mm

I have it on good authority from someone who works in a product management role at CUBE that Shimano is going to introduce their own universal derailleur hanger standard with their upcoming 13-speed groupsets. And it looks like Shimano's standard won't be compatible with SRAM UDH and vice versa. It's apparently very similar in concept, but subtly different enough that the two won't be interchangeable.

Afaik its a new version of their already adapted UDH hanger that has been seen on some bikes - Its just an UDH hanger but with a small pin on it.

Lets hope that its just that, and nothing more. I dont see manufactuers going back to doing different seat/chainstay molds for shimano and sram bikes. But maybe they have something completely different in the pipeline, but I think thats a miss from them then.

Some pics borrowed from mtbr/weightweenies - Frame is a crux 5, so spesh has already implemented this.

Yep. That is actually my crux 5 frame in the picture. I also checked an aethos 2 and tarmac sl9 which both have the same updated dropout. So Specialized has been doing this update for awhile given the Aethos came out in October 2025. I have not checked my epic 9 frameset but plan on looking to see if they did the same on the MTB side.

Funny enough, this video showed up in my YT feed this morning:

Saint drivetrain with 12sp chain and no clutch, now a competing UDH standard. (incoming 13sp MTB drivetrain? *eyeroll*) Can Shimano come out with a single new product without a braindead decision? Maybe the new brake rotors but come on that's not interesting or innovative. Also does anyone give a f about Shimano's new brakes? I've yet to see them in the wild, and have seen exactly ONE wireless Shimano drivetrain.

Very sad to me because I've always been a Shimano fanboy because they made simple, sensible products. I woke up one day and all of my bikes have been slowly taken over by SRAM, Microshift, Raceface, basically any brand except Shimano. I'm actually one of the dozens of people excited for their new ebike motor.

Interesting! I too have the epic 9, just went out in the shed and checked, a bit difficult to see with the derailleur still on, but does not look like there is a hole there.

So maybe gravel/road bike groupset only?

It's not really a competing standard it's the same as the Sram one but with a pin to stop rotation, at least that's how it looks from the drawinga. any frame that works with the Shimano one should also work with srams and transmission drive trains.

I'm not sure where you live, but there is plenty of interest in the Shimano drive trains and brakes where I'm at, must be regional differences.

He gets a fresh chain put on by a pro mechanic every single day. I get a fresh chain put on by a hack mechanic every 6 months.

The new rotors are heavy af, stamped and overpriced, I’d put it in the braindead column

We’ll be patient, they had a new motor but realized it was not even competitive with Avinox and had to go back to the drawing board, so I guess it’s going to be a while

I have a lot of time for the approach Shimano take to product development. A lot of the new stuff from every brand is not necessarily better than what came before, definitely different, but with compromises as well as advantages. Shimano just take a little longer to decide if the advance is worth the trade off. The great thing is we have a lot of choice of quality products from a number of brands, so no great loss if the Shimano offering doesn't work for you.

The idea of a company that only does development cycles when they feel they have changes worth making does sound nice but you would think the new Di2 drivetrains would be better if that were the case

Trust me, I get it. I feel exactly the same.

I'm honestly getting a bit fatigued by all this pseudo-innovation lately. Competing derailleur hanger standards, electronic 13 speed group sets, 1700w ebike motors, 32" wheels, new hub standards - I neither want nor need any of it. Because at the end of the day, all of this is just going to be more expensive but won't make a difference to my actual day-to-day enjoyment of cycling.

A few regulations at the highest levels of racing would help the sport and the consumer imo. For example, in American football, each team can't design their own football that spins faster and flies farther and has a unique circumference and electronic tracking etc etc. That would be ridiculous, and how would rec/high school/college teams deal with such changes? It would always benefit the richer teams that can afford new balls every month they come out.

I know it's not a perfect analogy and I don't want to stymie innovation, but a semi-level playing field (such as 29" wheels being the max) simply means that rider skill, frame design, component choices, and team support/strategy are always the most important. It also gives consumers standards they can rely on, which is desperately needed. I cannot imagine being new to mountain biking, buying an expensive 29er, and then reading about 32" wheels taking over.

Honestly, with how much 32 has been prototyped and with the imminent release of forks, wheels, and tires for 32, I don't think it's going to be nearly as big as people thing. We should be seeing a lot more 32 at races and other events than we are, this feels like it's going to be a lot more like 27.5+ tires and wheels than anything else.

What are the dislikes for 😂

That’s literally what the Shimano rep told us a few weeks ago when I asked if a new motor was coming

The only guy in my area that I know riding the new Di2 has it because it came spec'd on his bike, and had to put on STFU hoops because the chainslap was so bad.  I have the exact same bike with Transmission and get no chainslap.  Deleting the clutch is such a headscratcher considering how quiet bikes have gotten these days, and how much we care about bikes that don't sound like a shopping cart going down the hill.

I guess my experience with the new DI2 is unique, but I’ve been running the XTR version since the launch last year. It’s on my V2 Druid and Yeti MTe. Both bikes are quiet as a church mouse. Multiple weeks at bike parks, local Enduro races and weekly rips on my local trails. No noticeable chain slap from the rear mech. 🤷‍♂️

That's the experience that everyone my shop has set up on new di2 has had as well, and these are some of the most noise sensitive people I've ever worked with.
