Push something with a (bike) chain. This is what compressing a shock with the eyelets oriented in the same plane would be like. It would just buckle.

Yokes are the death of shocks because of sideloads. The front of the shock is (side to side) solidly mounted but the eyelet can cause loads from the side. The problem is the leverage exerted on the shock is higher because of the length of the yoke vs. The shock being mounted directly to a rocker.

One solution to this would be how Pole mounted the shock, rotated 90 degrees sideways on both sides so you basically have a universal join on both sides and the shock can rotate left to right instead of grenading itself.

Ah the chain example helps a lot. Thanks for that.

That is a good work around for pole. I always wondered why they did that.

While the shock does stick out quite a bit more either side and for an air shock the damper body is a bit more exposed, you also do get a lot more clearance inside the main frame to mount a water bottle cage and a big water bottle.

Maybe this is a dumb question. But can someone answer me why we still use yokes in this fashion where the eyelet/hole is vertical and not horizontal? Or does someone have the patent for a yoke that does this? I remember watching the Starling Bikes and Ohlins video about the Tiguan and they discuss how brutal yokes can be. So why does the yoke not twist to have a horizontal orientation? If this is a dumb question Ill fully accept the insults to the chin.

The yoke and shock would both assume the shortest possible orientation. For lack of better terminology, it would fold like origami.

Wonder what this means for the 38 since it supposedly isnt getting these new lowers. Maybe fox wants to be on trend and go USD.

If only someone would invent a way to mount the reservoir remotely we could solve all these problems…

All these new bikes coming out, but is Yeti ever gonna update the SB160? I don't see any reason why they would tbh. I was just marveling how they knocked it out of the park 6 years ago (sb150 basically same) and have been able to just sit back and print money since then, maintaining consumer awareness purely through their race sponsorships.

I wonder how long they will be able to go without a refresh...

Swapping all of the bikes away from the switch infinity link to the 6 bar on their ebike maybe?

Sixfinity was AFAIK created to emulate Switch Infinity when a motor is taking the space. So I doubt Sixfinity going on bikes.

This Frameworks Enduro bike on Neko's Instagram appears to have the new lowers, assuming these are 38s given the bike they are on.

hard to tell from a pic, but doesn‘t look beefy enough for a 38… but could also be the blacked out look.

I thought that, but would expect it to be a 170mm travel fork (to match the frame) so less likely to be a 36. He could just be doing some testing on the new 36 though.

This just popped up on my Instagram feed. Don't know if it's working or if it makes sense, but it's somewhat innovative and if it could solve some problems of cable tourism, it might be worth a look and put some bikes like orbea back on people's lists.

Yeah they popped up on my insta last week.

There's another one by a US company that are trying to claim a patent on the design too.

Not sure what you did to that link but its doesn’t work.

Here’s their insta for those interested:

Spotted in Matt Jones' newest vlog. Might be Ronan's hardline bike, based on the picture he leaked with the blacked out frame + components. The headset cup that the team has been using for the prototype matches. Mondraker swapping to SRAM?

Stroke Shift from Poland has claimed an EU patent for this

Not dissing on the stroke shift dude, but piercing 2 bean shaped holes in a plate would warrant a patent ? smh

If I remember it well, you can actually file a patent for anything (patent or enveloppe afaik about the FR/EU regulations). BUT

- it does not guarantee your product will be defensible if it doesn't have any technical advantages regarding competition at the time the patent is filed

- it does not protect your product from being copied based on the patent (case of the enveloppe apart) -or even for a similar patent to be filed- if YOU don't watch out for new files: one can complaint within 3-6 months after the competiting file has been registered (again, if my memory is good)

- what it actually does is guaranteing your product has an anteriority on the market and therefore that you can go against a competitor that would copy your design (that AND a proof of sales)

...so yeah, 2 bean shaped holes in a plate can be filed for a patent, but at this point imo it's just a marketing thing.

It takes a lot of R&D to determine the correct bean.

The real fix for headset routing is no headset routing.

Lots of patents are granted that don't make a lot of sense. I track suspensions patent is one that rubs me the wrong way. Scattershot patenting of every idler placement conceivable that doesn't have it mounted to main pivot or front triangle. Not a patent lawyer or anything but if it was challenged in court I wouldn't think it would have held up, but now Norco and intense are working with them.

It can't be good to have the brake hose overlapping the brake rotor like that ...

Edit: have they installed the brake adapter upside down?

The lever might be under an "ae" name.
