Even the most talented riders will have their parents paying a lot of money to get to races to develop the skills and get the results that get them noticed.  I would guess mpst of the top level juniors didn't have to buy a ride. But, for others, some upfront money to a team to make sure you have some support at the races isn't a bad deal. I'm guessing with the new WBD rules for teams, some bigger teams might find a spot for a person for the right amount of money as some of the smaller teams might not be a viable option moving forward..

If true, $75k doesn’t seem like enough honestly? 10 races this year, basically have to pay for months of lodging between races. Mechanic and other support. Team camps. Larger fees for teams next year…… to be on one of the best teams in the sport, kinda seems like a deal.

Devinci has a Wilson proto being raced in Canada under someone. Forget who it was but I did see it, and the bike looked impressive.

Is Reece getting the funding from Lotus? He is posting a LOT about his car(s), and the company. Would be an interesting tie-up.

It's probably the same frame Unior Sinter riders raced last season they were on Devinci. Dak rode it. It might be slightly different geometry wise but it looks exactly the same. The first proto was ridden at WCs in 2020, probably the reason why it's still a full 29er. Photo is from PB's article https://www.pinkbike.com/news/bike-check-jack-pellands-prototype-devinc…

Reece Wilson on a Gamux would be interesting. Probably has a good chance of nabbing that 100k Gates prize purse thing if it’s still going next year.

Nick who has Downamics has been managing and wrenching for Heather Wilson this year is supposed to be a real suspension wizard. He has been testing a Gamux for a while... Just a thought, no insight Smile

Tom Pidcock off Ineos apparently... lots of rumours swirling in the road world, he was pulled off their roster for Il Lombardia at the last second and made an IG post basically saying it was the team pulling him despite being in top shape.

Also $75k for an 11 race World Cup/World Champs season is not much, surely the actual fully costed rider $ is more than that.

That would actually be plausible. Lotus produces (or at least was producing in the first place) the carbon parts for Hope, so there might be something to look at.

Hopefully (wink wink)  there may be a technical connection between Gamux and Lotus for carbon too... well, probably coulnd't afford a 10th of the resulting piece of art, but still a potential drooler.

$75k I guess gets him entry to 10 WC races, transportation and accomodation at them, (plus IXS, British nationals too?) along with a V10 (and probably a Nomad to play on aswell) and all the wheels and tyres he can break. What's that worth on its own?

Thats what he'd have to pay for anyway doing it the privateer route, plus he's also gonna get a mechanic, physio and training, fox support; plus its a way to grow his socials following. And remember he's still a minor so it's not like he could drive himself around europe sleeping in a shitty van; so thats something else his parents would have to do themselves or pay out for.

Exactly, it's pretty cringey that a bunch of grown-ass men are dragging this kid on the internet just because an anonymous rumor says his parents are kicking in some cash to give him a chance to chase his dream.  The kid obviously has some talent and happens to have parents with higher than average means.  How is this different than sending your kid to an elite ski academy?

Reece on Gamux is exciting - gonna get that $100k!

I saw that he had a Lotus sticker on his helmet on one of the rounds. Looks more like a sponsorship than him being a fanboy. Does Sam Reynolds have some kind of link also? I see him posting videos from the track quite often.

At least for the track bike afaik Lotus do the aero, hope do the manufacture. If you ever get a chance to do a factory tour you get to see the carbon labs.

Just no lift or access infrastructure for gravity racing. The last race in 2006 had 200m vert & the winning time was 2.16.31 by Matti on his Honda...

Ended on a beach though... cool...

One of the most important things in rich people hobbies is having even richer people to get mad at. You and I, we spent what we had to…a dollar more is way too much!

And truly: imagine not helping your child pursue their dreams. “Well yeah she loves it, but who gives a shit! We’re going to make her stay home watch the kitchen remodel.”

Question: how many people have retired from DH in the black? I’m guessing hmm zero
