As someone who actually likes having to change tires so they can try more different tires, the Conti rear DH soft compounds have been wearing frustratingly (half kidding) slow. Grip is comparable if not better than maxxis maxxterra and the knobs barely show signs of wear after a season of northeast bike park and granite slab riding. Pretty impressive and good for the wallet. Just put a DH casing soft compound argotal on the back of my levo so interested to see how the taller knobs wear.

I had the same experience w/ Kryptotal Enduro Soft Fr/Re; Assegai/DHR MaxxGrip usually last half a season for me, I've got that much on the Contis and they are still going strong.

bikes ride well, but the builts were all over the place for years specwise, not very attractive compared to most other options.

now back to tech rumors Smile

funny shimano isn‘t coming out with an enduro spd pedal. love my saints but they‘re heavy as f* and the cages of the XT/XTR are a joke, make no difference. something in between would be nice, like the CB mullet-e to the mullet-dh is.

New Enves should be on their way, let's see if they stick to the stiff like a brick or they changed like everyone else

Kona rant:
I have a like new 2022 Process 153 27.5.  One of a few brands that thankfully makes a fun mountain bike in my tire size of choice.

But they put water bottle mounts on a frame that you can't put a water bottle on. Literally.
The bottle cage hits the shock reservoir.  That being said...I'll ride that bltch til the wheels fall off.

Get a Di2 adapter to move the bottle cage further up the downtube...

Wolftooth makes a pretty rad one too.  Lots of cages have an adjustable mounting zone as well.

I had the same problem on an older Process 153 (29" size M). The only bottle I could fit was the smallest Fidlock (450 ml). My estimate was around 2mm of clearance to the top of the Super Deluxe at full compression.

Weird kona rant, I had a medium process 29 153 and had no issues with bottles fitting. Wife has a small 27.5 process 153 and can fit a small bottle no problem.

Don't know if they made it out of the testing stage, but the Enves I saw last year were single wall moto style rims like Zipp. For sure not stiff.

They will release 1 or 2 gravel bikes. MTB News sneaked into the tent and you can see some skinny tires…

My guess would be a gravel bike or a short travel trail bike.. Seems to be the main two openings in the lineup..

Looking at Sea Otter coverage & other recent product announcements, high-flow tubeless valves seem to be this year's "We made one too!" product.

It also seems like the coverage reflected the technology plateau the industry is in right now. I can’t think of anything innovative being shown, but I might have missed it.

That's the first thing I thought when I saw those, the profile looks similar to the Zipp rims. IIRC Zipp beds the spokes uniquely as well to allow more movement. I hate giving SRAM money after they've shafted me on warranty claims in the past, so it'd be tempting if they could get the same level of compliance.

It might also be interesting to see if they do a different front and rear profile. Zipp sells a different front/rear rim, the impression I hear from riders is the front is really good, but the rear can be a bit vague if you really push into berms. It'll be interesting to see if they keep the same profile front/rear or do them uniquely.

Seriously. We are in an era of mountain biking where tech innovations are definitely in the micro advancements instead of macro. Unless if its on the race course, its usually kept a well secret for the most part. Cannondale and Specialize need to give their RnD teams some special powders to create some unique bikes or suspension ideas like brain or what ever it was Specialized did.

Well after the Ferro was released I suppose there wasn't such a long way to get to a DH-specd fork.

Anyway, as we're talking about USD forks...

If someone from Manitou can hear my screams behind my screen: WHERE IS THE DORADO SC

...thank you.

You're allowed to choose different rims for the different ends of your bike.

I think it’s very much based on the economic place the industry is in.
But I know its not a new new innovation but the fact there was 4 companies using bonded frames in mountain bikes is pretty cool to see. And Fox electronic shock with wireless remote was cool.

But yes, as I look back I’m having a hard time thinking of crazy innovations.
