I always ran a 3C Maxx Terra in the front and a dual compound in the rear and managed it, but I'm coming around to softer compounds to deal with moist and wet conditions around here. Limestone is a bitch when it's wet, there's NO grip. So much so that after coming from Finale Ligure my confidence was completely shaken when there was no grip at home, then that was compounded by an Aosta trip (granite) where everything you did made the bike react the way you wanted it because of all the grip. Now every time there are a few drops of rain I'm back to feeling like I'm a giraffe on ice.
I don't see a need for a DH casing (running EXO casings front and back and an insert in the rear I flat once every one or two years) but the softer rubber is something I could get behind.

I get it, and I really do. I'm riding local trails on lightest casing t9 butcher in the front and middle weight casing e13 SS in the rear no matter the conditions, if it's slippery at least the rear slides first and not the other way around. But even on my bikepark set of wheels I don't see any reason to ride anything even remotely close to the dh22 in the rear, maybe if I was only riding wc dh tracks mostly in the wet and never even thought about riding jump lines or simply any non black routes I could see a hint of benefit to it. Would I like to try 1200g dh22 for a front tire, sure, why not, but I would also guess part of the reason why that tire in it's porky variant gets great reviews is that heavy casing doing good job at damping a lot of chatter, take 300g of rubber from it and it will be gone (or at least noticeably reduced). I wonder how hard would it be for them to use existing bikepark casing as a base for said 1200g tire...
Or, and hear me out here, this might be tough for some to hear, our own individual experiences do not define those of others. None of us ride the same trails, on the same bikes, in the same style, at the same speeds. What works for one, might not work for others, and our individual experiences are proof of nothing other than our own experiences, and even those are full of bias cause we all think we are doing/making the best decisions for ourselves.
We could all do with taking a step back every now and then when telling others how wrong they are, cause we do it a different way.

Sound fair?
Absolutely, most people ride wildly overbiked but even more importantly overtired most of the time, hence trail/Enduro bikes slowly creeping closer to the 40lbs territory and the people keep moaning about it without realizing that they are the cause and at the same time solution to this. Sounds fair?

STREWTH, first “overbiked” and now “overtired”.
Look mate, some folks only have one bike. It’s nice to have a big rig with meaty dh rubber. Just cos you see people riding mellow trails on big bikes doesn’t mean they don’t also see proper terrain and abuse.
We get it, you’re amazing. You ride WC DH tracks on a XC unicycle with a 23mm slick. Good for you.
DH casing tyres on trail/enduro bikes, yes please.
Any info on the specialized bikes?? Enduro and both stumpjumper have been out for a while now... Specially the enduro.
Yup, new enduro on its way very soon. Spotted at my buddy’s shop, he won’t show any pictures though. He says it looks a lot like Finn’s DH bike. Not sure if it will be lugged or not.

Are you serious?!? I was supposed to go get a new trek slash high pivot yesterday but didnt have time so have to go this week as the shop was closed today... Then I'll go at the Specialized shop to see if they'll have a new Enduro soon because if it has a steep S.A., I might go this way instead of the high pivot with idler, even if the slash seems to be a lot better to pedal (than other high pivot bike)!

I’m sure the enduro could be totally different but I don’t really see why it should be, from a consumer standpoint. Geo is still completely dialed 3 years after release (or 5 years I don’t really know)
I have only been really into mountain bikes for like 8 years so maybe but I don’t see where they can get much better geo/kinematic wise.

More and more manufacturers go to high-pivot, some are also using significantly longer shocks for 170-180mm of travel, if i’m not mistaken the Enduro uses a 60mm-stroke shock for its 170mm which can be tricky for a little heavier riders. Also, there are now even slacker shorter-travel bikes than the Enduro - they do need to change the geo.

that's actually a 176mm to the wheel, claimed 170mm on the current enduro.

You mean the current Enduro actually has 176mm of travel against the 170 officially?
Yes. And I agree that Enduro is not really up to date, only thing that is ok-ish in this day and age is reach and wheelbase, but head angle? Nope. Seat angle? Double nope? Proportional or adjustable chainstay length? You guessed it. And kinematics are not that great either with Almost 3:1 average LR, anyone over 100kg will have very hard time finding the right coil or air shock that can be pumped to necessary pressure.

If this is true, Specialized have done an amazing job keeping it under wraps prior to the bike landing in shops. Not a single spy shot has surfaced and it's not been spotted under any of the team riders at an EWS (or whatever it's called now).
Prior to the current version's release, there were a number of pics like these floating around. Did NSMB's whining have an effect?
I highly doubt there's a new enduro coming or it would of been raced already at EDR.
Close out sales on stumpys and enduros locally here. Shop guys said there is a new Stumpy coming soon but didn’t know anything about a new enduro 🤷🏻♂️

I thought there was no way this was true, but yeah it sure seems like it. It's super sensitive to miniscule changes but there's almost no way it's actually 170mm, and if anything it's closer to 180mm. I guess sometimes it "rides like it has more travel than it does" because, well, it actually does.
I know this had been mentioned in a bike check article from the Gamux team on the other site a few weeks back. But it looks like manitou might have a production ready version of the 2-bolt Dorado upper crown? Probably too optimistic to assume it’s a drop crown with short offset so it can be used on a wider range of headtubes too?

High vs low also influences travel a lot too. Putting it in high increases the eye to eye by 3 mm. If you integrate the leverage curve for the enduro on our site you get 176mm as well

Yo guys I'm real happy for you and Imma let you finish but DH tires on enduro bikes is one of the greatest combos of all time. Of all time!
Only thing cooler is road tires on DH bikes. Mark my words.

Actually I’d love to see some supermoto style tyres for urban DH!
or any city-based e-fat bike tire.
Saw-ree, I’ll go back to lurking.
Is there any new info on when the new conti tires will be available with softer rubber in lighter casings? Think I heard/saw that was coming?
maybe just trying to keep the current range in stock first haha.
I also want this though, i dont want DH casing to get super soft....
I heard/saw that they don't plan to do that in foreseeable future.
I asked conti UK, who could neither confirm or deny that SS enduro tyres were on the way soon

Pretty sure I saw this on someone's Insta from Taipei back i March (was it yours @iceman2058?), hope it's still happening

I'll be interested to see the new E29 for sure as it seems that Spesh is leaning in to slack STAs & short CSs. The new E29 could be a step backwards.
