So, it's an ebike called the Roczen and it has a water bottle nestled between frame tubes near the head tube... Just like a motorcycle's fuel tank (especially a trials moto's fuel tank). Huh.

The Lyrik has been relegated to a max of 160 mm travel with MY23, the previous one did also come in 180 mm. The Zeb took that place (the Zeb goes all the way from 150 mm to 190 mm). I'm sure people want the bigger, better fork (if it makes sense or not is a different story), but at the end of the day, the Tyee also became a 170 mm fork bike. So there isn't a Lyrik to fit that niche anymore... Same goes for the 36 and the 38.

Didn't know about that one, but the writing is on the wall. Like I said, the old Lyrik went up to 180 mm. The MY23 doesn't offer that. I wouldn't be surprised if a bigger update to the 36 also cuts the 170 mm option as the 36 is now specced on 140 and 150 mm bikes (just like the Lyrik).

I mean... Back in 2015 I was riding a 160 mm Pike. And what is the maximum travel of a Pike these days?

I'm still riding a 160mm pike on my hardtail, just about to send it in for a service! if it ain't broke, don't make the stanchions bigger

Chainslap protection still in development…

I'm getting flashbacks to the days when I would go through a whole role of Mastic tape and wrap my entire swingarm. Don't forget little bits of velcro on your chain device.

Ngl, 5Dev could've handled this better.

It's almost like people don't remember the first round of gucci cnc cranks mostly all failing back in the day. If they aren't forged and then cnc'd to make them pretty they'll fail.

That was a true JRA with video evidence!

I went through three sets of those first Race Face cranks that were supposed to have been forged in quick succession. After the third set I told them to just send me something else as I didn't trust their cranks. I got a bottom bracket that broke on the first ride and gave away the t shirt.

Regardless of how good the product may be. If you have such a guy in charge of your social media, I really can’t trust that company in any way.

I hope this man gets fired and they get someone helping Cam.

Yeah for sure. Definitely not correct to personally get emotional as a service agent. Clearly the crank should not snap in this application..,

BUT warranty was offered so can‘t complain about that.

Also the guy was not really cooperative or looking for a refund/warranty at all and just kept complaining. Don‘t want to know how he handled the phone call… Wink

Microsoft paint cranks

The least material in the highest stress area.

Somebody playing around, designing cranks in Microsoft Paint, rather than an Engineer using SolidWorks with an FEA suite.

Yeah, it's a real shame Cam went straight to socials before the situation was resolved. Especially for someone in the trade.

It's shit his crank snapped but he should have been handled in private first. Now he looks like a bit a of dick too.

5Dev were on the backfoot from the start and thats a shitty position to put someone in.

Ah yes, the coveted and academically accepted “Microsoft paint stress analysis model”

What was wrong with how 5dev dealt with that guy? They offered him a refund or new set. He just kept bitching. Literally nothing else you can do lol.

I think the issue is that 5DEV seemed aware of the likelihood of failure and didn't do anything about it, putting Cam in danger by their own inaction. That's especially bad (unfairly or no) for a small company, where the rider has more pride in using their parts than a standard piece of kit. And once you learn that the company knew they had a bad batch of parts and did nothing, what faith can you have in them offering a warranty part? While Cam definitely came in spicy, I'd rather have liked to see 5DEV respond by talking about running a recall on those parts, and adding quality/warranty controls to stop it from happening again.

I’m shocked anyone is trying to justify 5Devs actions. They knew they had faulty shit cranks on the market and continued selling anyway. I see exactly where Cam is coming from. 5Dev made excuses from the get go. Pretty scary those guys produce aerospace products. I will be sure to NEVER recommend let alone purchase anything these guys put out.

5Dev is wishing someone (anyone) would talk about the Fox Float X2 right now.

If you're being sarcastic, well, it's just that Microsoft Paint is free. It is also fast and easy to illustrate a concept or idea.

If somebody wants authentic FEA, that's not fast or easy, so it can't be free.

I love the idea of making things in the US, but not at the expense of accepted principles.

I just went through and watched all the guys instagram videos again and missed the part where 5dev were aware of the likelihood of failure. They acknowledged it broke and offered TWO pairs of their stronger freeride cranks or a full refund (which I’d take over a formal apology any day). Was pretty clear the guy posting was a troll from the get go when he responded to their initial message of “how can we help” with “bruh” and a face palm emoji… unfortunate that he got a defective crank but he’s got enough whine it makes me wanna prep a charcuterie board.
