Looks like a wet scream. Maybe just mis-labeled? Mis-hotpatched?

At 63.6º HTA a 46mm offset fork gives 119mm of mechanical trail, while a 54mm fork gives 111mm. To get the 54mm fork giving the same mechanical trail the HTA has to be dropped to 62.2º. As for the why, I think lengthening the front of the bike without affect reach is a pretty reasonable justification for the offset. I'd...

It looks like there's three pivots, the bottom bracket, and the shock mount all going through the two side pieces that are welded together, so thankfully tons of features to fixture while welding. ED: Also since they're all going between the same two side pieces as long as you get those two right everything behind them follows quite nicely.

I don't think it's necessarily about knowing how to pedal or not, it's about bike-body fit and opening up options. If someone feels more comfortable spinning a smaller circle and gets to approach features with a wider range of spots to fit a half-pedal in, it seems like a valuable change to investigate! Not to mention lowering the likelihood of...
With manufacturers pushing into designed-for-kids bikes there's a fresh batch of solid and cheap cranks coming out. Outside of the everlasting Canfield Brothers both the Praxis Zane ($160) and Trailcraft Direct Mount Cranks ($170) are really good new options. As for seat length, I raise it by the difference so my leg is hitting the same angle at bottom-of-stroke. This...

Appleman put those out for regular riders to test out a range of lengths and see what feels best for them, as they make cranks all the way from 175mm down to 100mm. Admittedly, after making and trying some 152.5s over winter I'm intrigued.

Please let's just move on from the crank drama. I'm sure both sides have learned from the experience. It's Sea Otter now; let's see some spicy tech rumor shots

To me the CS rep noting that there's an issue with that crank (and jumping right past failure mode/use case investigation) indicates more of a known model/batch problem than a one-off.

I think the issue is that 5DEV seemed aware of the likelihood of failure and didn't do anything about it, putting Cam in danger by their own inaction. That's especially bad (unfairly or no) for a small company, where the rider has more pride in using their parts than a standard piece of kit. And once you learn that the...
