2019 Racing Rumors

My only problem with Giant is their aluminum F/S bikes don't look cool. The Carbon ones on the other hand look as good as they perform.

If the Athertons leave Trek, I would love to see Trek grab Kade and keep him on as a future prospect... Let him race and do some C3 type of projects.. The kid looks like he could be the next Ratboy..

The idea of Trek becoming the FMD bike sponsor is an interesting one.. Tahnee is hands down one of the 3 fastest women right now.. They just would need a guy capable to get up towards the podium...

All the hype on Vali right now... Not sure how justified it is... She's young and fast, but her times are usually 5-10 in elite.. Not terrible, but not setting the world on fire.. However, I'm sure the speed will pick up as she gets more experience... Hopefully she can stay healthy and we see her full potential over the next few years..
no junior lady has ever or consistently put in the times Vali does on elite riders. Several races i think, she would have podiumed. Let's face it, there hasn't been a changing of the guard in elite women's in years, not since Ragot, and jonnier retired. Glad to see Tahnee win but she's been in that same top 5 for awhile.

Probably because there isn't much in the way of a precedent for Junior women since that field at Worlds has been largely a ghost town. The podium is sometimes in danger of not having enough riders to fill all the steps

The V10 linkage is being developed. Troy is riding a custom linkage because he's running an air shock, which doesn't fit into the stock shock mount. They use a spacer to put it further back and thus need a different linkage. That and the different progression of air shocks.

The Sender was meant to of been designed around air shocks thats the story when the bike come out, I know Troy is on metric now but surely that shock causes as issue as the mud clearance with the linkage he has now must be terrible

The super deluxe is too chunky right behind the front eyelet, that's the issue. A float X2 fits OK

It wasn't. Actually there were different layouts and renderings floating around with a Öhlins coilshock installed, although the marketing department wants you to believe something else. Lots of people are changing out their airshocks for coilshocks, because the bike tends to wallow through the midstroke with a Vivid air or X2 installed. This is especially true with heavier riders. The bike itself has enough progression to handle a coilshock well.

Btw.: Is the Canyon team set? Or are Brosnan or Wallace on the move?

RE. on the move - I would imagine that Brosnan is staying put? He has his own signature line of components (bar, stem, etc.) with Canyon which I would also imagine that he is being nicely compensated for.

It´s also literally the only way for a company like YT to "safe face" after loosing Gwin (If that was to happen), the narrative being something like "we didn´t loose our super champ, but we instead acquired a future champ in womens racing as our new top rider".
Would probably work out rather well for them from a marketing perspective.
Tahnee´s got a lot of untapped marketing potential and, maybe adding Vali into the mix, a girls first superteam does seem to have quite a bit of potantial imho.

If Gwin is off YT, I certainly would not assume YT needs to "save face". There are a lot of different logical reasons why that could happen and actually be the SMARTER move for YT. If Gwin is asking for some crazy $...it's a different situation than when he was asking for crazy $ a few years ago when he signed with YT. YT is in a different position and they have proven that they make WC winning bikes - something they couldn't say before. They got the mega hype they paid for and YT is more well know because of it. Also, Gwin didnt have a great year by his standards (even with the injuries considered) AND the younger contingent continues to be getting stronger and faster; bringing into question if he can continue his dominant ways even if 100% healthy. Having a contract year like that does not help with negotiation if you are asking for insane amounts of $. Much different than if you came off dominating the season and you can slam your bible on the negotiating table and say...GIVE ME THE MONEY!

So let's say Gwin and YT can't/don't come to an agreement, IMO the questions are: 1. Who can afford him? 2. Who needs him for their brand building? I would guess that list is pretty short:
Trek: Hype for the new session and limited WC DH Mens success since Gwin left.
Cube: Got dat cash and maybe want to stamp their name on the WC DH scene.
Giant: plenty of $ and limited WC DH success for a while now.

None of the brands mentioned in the above post are where he is going.

I don't think Gwin will be going to a factory team, the setup he's got is pretty perfect.

If he is moving on I bet he's currently testing the different frames available ( GT, YT, Norco etc) Once he's decided on the frame of choice, he'll either fund the frames himself or do a deal with the manufacturer.

Thoughts?

Being the most marketable rider on the planet, why on earth would he fund the frames himself? There isn’t a manufacturer on the planet that wouldn’t want him riding their frames.

Funding himself was a bit of an extreme comment.

Didn't he / the team buy SRAM components for themselves when it all began?

they did, but thats because sram demanded all sram kit and he didn't want that because of his other sponsors.
and he is running a trp prototype, so another reason for that

The marketable rider comment is highly debatable.

Maybe to you. But a vast majority of sponsors disagree with you. The numbers don't lie

True. The only other riders with crossover appeal at the moment are Brandon Semenuk and Danny MacAskill.

I would say Greg, especially in an international setting. I have nothing against Aaron, and maybe in the States he would be a company's first pick. I think it depends on the product and what image the marketing department is trying to push.

Not a rumor, but very relevant: UCI will return to 2017 start order regulations for 2019!

Not really team roomaz but more gear roomaz.

Proto Hutchinson Minion-esque tires on Intense Enduro team bikes.

Surely he’s just tagging anybody that won a WC number 1 plate for him, in either Sunn guise, or Commencal. Not much to read into there.

Scott Velosolutions have a garage sale, everything must go, so no team next year maybe?

I hope Magnus Manson gets more support in 2019, he’s been pretty consistent on the “privateer” Canyon.
