Indeed, the frictional losses are highest in the small cogs, but the middle is the most efficient because of the straighter chainline: https://www.cyclingabout.com/drivetrain-efficiency-difference-speed-bet… I love big jumps between shifts on a mountain bike, my ideal would be if we had Shimano Hyperglide (or whatever its called) on a 10-50 nine speed cassette, like what Box was trying to do with their Prime 9 but never released. However, on a road bike, I need tight gearing. When you're fighting a headwind or trying to not get dropped when you need to stay tucked behind your faster mate, having the precisely correct...

Anyone done a chainless race down a forest road that doesn't require much braking? My crew does a ride where a no-pedal gravel road race back to the car is tradition. At 200 I beat 160 pound friends who are on faster tires. So really, it's not a race, it's a scale. Here's the past winners of Fort William WCDH: https://www.rootsandrain.com/venue13/fort-william/events/filters/dh/ser… In the men's race, these are some of the taller/bigger riders we have had in the series. Brosnan winning here in 2014 is impressive. Benoit is a bigger dude, he's got an advantage on any higher speed section that...

Magura MT8 brakes on sale for a while in German webshops. Maybe a new version comes? Smile (No major change to MT8 brakes since late 2014/early 2015 except for the flat mount caliper, which was introduced a few years later.)

Surprise surprise, DT Swiss launches a new 240 hub with more engagement (DEG). Funny enough, the two ratchets are now both spring loaded again, unlike the last version. https://www.dtswiss.com/de/innovationen/a-different-angle

Not a rumour but I spotted this outside the Marks Work Warehouse in Squamish last week. I haven’t been following closely but I’m assuming this is the team kit with trp and crankbrothers. Also had an unlabelled Maxxis tire on the front that I had not seen before (might be old news though).

Fox 2025 trickling out. Sea Otter is coming up quick... Doesn't appear to be any external differences on the Float X2 vs 2024, except for a new Kashima gold reservoir decal replacing the orange on aftermarket shocks. More evidence gold will be the theme for MY25.
