When I was 14, I had a friendly argument with an older colleague at the bike shop. The argument was around riding with protection, especially gloves. I said it is lame and not very comfy and that I prefer the real feel of the grip in my hands. He on the other hand had the winning argument: “when you’ll get older, you’ll also prefer riding without protection, but it can end up in a maternity room”. So he won, I heeded his words, and since then I've very sensibly been using all kinds of protection when riding, usually a...

12/19/2025 4:22am The DH casing HR3 has a different sidewall from the other Maxxis DH tires. The sidewall has a thicker layer of rubber near the bead that can be easily felt by hand when the tire is deflated. I haven't seen any marketing or info from Maxxis about the differences though which makes me think they're cooking up a different/better option (radial?)

12/18/2025 11:10am Not sure if this is real and if it’s been posted. New decals for Öhlins forks. Looks horrid in comparison to the old decals.

12/18/2025 11:09am Not directly the same, but my HR3 doubledown looks and feels like a normal Maxxis casing to me.

12/16/2025 5:11am I believe the two "oldest" bikes on the market right now are S Enduro (2020) and Banshee Titan (2019) and they are both still perfectly relevant going into 2026... I'd say Titan became even more popular as the time went by which is pretty funny in modern times but I'd say there are more and more of us who dont really buy into latest trends of blingbling marginal gains and are perfectly happy with a simple, capable, reliable and affordable bike and Banshee ticks all of those.

12/13/2025 8:10pm Why yes, of course! During the Sinister bikes v Iron Horse east coast glory days, FTW and I would both have spares of all the small Sinister parts at local races and Daq had full spares kits when he was on the road with Ebbet and Smutok at Nationals and Crankworks. At Mt Snow Frank would often take bikes he didn’t even design or build back to the shop and patch cracks and ream things or spin up hardware over night for people. I never even saw him ask for money for that… Almost all the Iron Horse racers were...

12/13/2025 6:48pm @Dave_Camp shared this elsewhere in the Vital forums, but he thinks unsprung mass doesn't have nearly the effect on suspension performance that we tend to assign it in the popular imagination. And he's pretty smart. As someone who's pretty sensitive to suspension performance and who runs really heavy wheels, tires, and inserts, I tend to agree.

12/11/2025 7:50pm I should go singlespeed on my dh bike at this point. That point aside, if I was racing at the pointy end and if it actually shifted more reliably, then sure I would give it a go if my frame sponsor happened to also have a UDH and I wasn’t on a Shimano or Box equipped package. I really doubt...

12/11/2025 7:41pm Rode my Hightower V2 three seasons in the bike park. Had a great time. Keep hearing “there’s nothing like riding a downhill bike”. I believed the hype and bought a V10.8 in 2024. They were right.
