It might be me but if I'm buying a steel bike (for the feel, longevity etc.) I'd want the whole thing to be steel.

Hi there, Cam here from Outlier MTB. First and foremost, thank you all for your positive comments and support during our recent launch! I see that some of you have been discussing the actual pedal drop on this forum. There have been some misunderstandings that we would like to take some time to clear up. Our Pendulum pedal as it was released has 6mm of drop measured from the centre of the axle to the top of the platform. Most flat pedal platforms are somewhere between 5-7mm above the axle so our pedals are essentially ~12mm bellow your average pedal...

instead of measuring forces, why not displacement at the pedal spindle (rotational/angular distance)? that's essentially the riders contact point with the system.

Watched this yesterday and thought it was pretty well done. When I first saw these, I thought they were shite. Now I really want to try them.

"Center of the axle" is indeed what it says on their site. I think "top" of axle may be more accurate with the given numbers? Regardless, it lowers your pedal quite a bit. Between that and the big ol' openness under foot, I'd love to try them.

Despite liking the design of the Pendulum pedal I'm wondering if their claim that the plattform sits 12mm below the axle can be true? The outer diameter of the threads is 9/16 inch which is roughly 14.3mm - for me the distance between the axle and the plattform would be less than half of that so rather 6 or 7mm...

Some our local rippers / engineers came up with a very unique "axle-less" pedal. Machined here in Calgary, Alberta and testing in the rocky mountains. They use a big ol 6902 bearing for spinny duties. The pendulum (drop pedal) is super interesting. Void pedals (traditional flat) Pendulum pedals (12mm drop) "Our platform sits 12mm below the center of the axle. Most pedals place the platform 5mm or more above the center of the axle. This effectively lowers the rider's center of mass 17mm or more offering a significant stability, and control. During sudden decelerations, the pedal acts as a pendulum...

weird for sure, given the intended height ranges for it. I know adults that would fit the medium scout.

At 70% travel there is a singularity which allows your spring force to simultaneously be three different values. Some hypothesize that if you can push past 70% travel you will bridge spacetime and land in a parallel universe.

Mechanically speaking, nothing is gained with a 15mm axle over a 20mm. What we gained by going with the (mechanically inferior) 15mm axle is the rapid and widespread adoption of thru-axles across all mountain bikes, then road bikes, then gravel and CX bikes. If the axle choices in 2012 (or whenever) were viewed as a binary choice between lightweight XC-oriented QR axles and a heavy DH-oriented 20mm thru axle, I think it would have taken a lot longer for product managers to go out on a limb and spec better forks and axles. 15mm axles gave product managers needed cover...

Outside labs? Any more info on it? As for dogma, it's normal for people to hold to their convictions which is where dogmae come from. Finding out you've been wrong, even when proven wrong, is often a tough cookie to swallow. Too many people do not want to do that. But my god is the feeling of realizing you CAN have it better a good one. But it's still an uphill battle to get there every single time.
