Yeah thats pretty much what I was going to say! When they say to start with "sag" I think they are just meaning to set the spring rate full stop, in whatever method so its at least in the ballpark. ie not just bolting it on with whatever spring or pressure it had in the box. And I always like to work through spring rate first - find the point which is definitely too stiff and too soft and then work back in from there. Its amazing how often the "sag" can seem about right and not obviously too stiff...

I always struggle with knowing if I should lower spring rate and add volume spacers/compression damping, or if I should increase spring rate and remove damping in order to get compliant but supportive feel. I used to focus purely on soft initial feel and bottom out resistance, so I would run a lot less air with a ton of spacers, but then I learned a bit more about suspension and realized I was robbing myself of support and potentially inducing harshness by being deep into the travel. So I came to riding the Albert 2.5 Trail Radial soft in the back on steep alpine trails a bit vs the Supertrail 2.6 Mary Soft that was a bit worn before. I used slightly higher pressure (1,3 bar vs 1,34 bar) to account for lower volume. Its hard to do a comparison in this setting riding a new tire after replacing a slightly worn one and I can't say anything to the sturdiness as it was mostly steep alpine terrain. My responses are out of concern for a rider who spent what I consider to be a large amount of money with my company, and not being happy with the results. That's not acceptable to me. Interesting points. I love deathgrips because they are wider under my thumb than under my pinky, and I feel like that narrower pinky end lets me grip tighter there. I wasn’t that interested in these kinds of products for mere protection but now that the control element has been brought up I’m really considering trying to get some on my bars…

No doubt about all the pressure on the pinky fingers. All my grips are worn down to the plastic underneath (meaty paws) on the pinky ends. Doesn’t help I overlap my pinky fingers over the ends of the grips. Always been my comfort spot but it’s weird. I’d be curious how this would feel since I wouldn’t be able to overlap but would def give me more area to pressure with how I grip. Hmm

I’d argue that might’ve worked effectively the first dozen times the bike industry did it, but not anymore. Unless what you’re hiding is truly unique, it actually does the opposite. People either see through it as a gimmick immediately, or are disappointed when the cover comes off and what is underneath is generic copied homework thus having the opposite effect just when the bike is actually about to go on sale.

Bikes with electronic derailleurs do not make any philosophical sense. I’d rather ride an e-bike. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

For inverted forks I clamp the stanchions in the bike stand and remove the bike.
