7/10/2026 9:58am Will it be dumb to ask what is the reason not to use Saint levers in the first place? Whats the diference between them and any other servowave shimano lever?

7/6/2026 8:18pm My $0.02 on Jordi and DAQ... He's clearly not an idiot, but neither are the teams running DAQ at world cup level. Most likely, they're both right. Jordi sits in the Fox stand and deals with whatever walks through the door, under enormous time pressure. There's probably 3/5 of 5/8 he doesn't know about how Fox product behaves, both through his own honed intuition and through dyno data. Having people bring their own interpretations probably does get in the way of him doing his thing. Even if you loved DAQ, you might think it belonged in the off season and...

7/6/2026 12:23pm I swear this is SRAM propaganda: "It just doesn't make sense to add a more complex, harder-to-maintain, more expensive option that's locked to your frame and that no one has parts for." More complex to maintain? The Pinion service interval is 6,200 miles — people race entire seasons without touching their gearbox. Meanwhile derailleur drivetrains need constant adjustment and eat consumables, especially on ebikes. Gearboxes will take over ebikes within a few years — the motor negates the efficiency loss, the weight is low and centered, and ebike torque destroys conventional drivetrains anyway. DH won't be far behind (less unsprung...

7/6/2026 4:52am For anyone interested, I had a chance to try out the TRP Evo Pros this past week. Due to some weird circumstances with shipping delays and coincidences, I was able to throw these on my hardtail to try out while I wait for their final brakes to go on (M9220). I ran them with the newer S05E rotors, which are awesome and I love. I had intended on putting them on my bigger bike, but things got weird and with the Brembos coming in a few weeks, I didn't feel like messing with the annoying cable routing twice in a...

7/3/2026 10:13pm FWIW regarding upcoming gearbox ebikes and trickledown to classic bikes, it's a big no. The way these gearbox concepts from Avinox and Gobao work requires an electric motor, so it's a no go for a non electric bicycle. As for shifters, Pinion has electric shifting via triggers and Effigear always supported trigger shifting, but brings it's own problems in regards to shifting with it. Regardless if the benefits it's quite likely the current crop of gearboxes would indeed be a no go for the average rider based on the limitations they bring with them.

7/3/2026 10:41am For what it's worth, my experience with brake rotors is that Shimanos at all tiers have been the most consistently true out of the box. Sram has been the worst, including the HS2, out of the box and from heat on the bike, with Magura and tektro/TRP following right behind. This has been true for both after market and OEM stock rotors. The only rotors that have rivaled Shimano that I've seen have been Galfers and Hope, Care in making a good product is the most important thing, and Shimano for all their faults do seem to care about making...

7/2/2026 8:03pm If you were looking for an O-chain compatible Shimano crank for DH, I've wondered before if you could just use XT 8130 (Superboost) cranks on 83mm shell bikes without the 4.5mm spindle spacers on both sides? How would a 73mm shell with 9mm of spindle spacers be functionally different than a 83mm shell with no spacers (other than the 1mm difference)?

7/1/2026 11:58am Agreed, the quality of consumer products we are seeing out of China has shifted a lot in the last few years. They went from "good for the low price" to "one of the best, and cheaper than all the competitors" real fast. It seems like the high end Chinese bikes are everywhere on the road and gravel side, and they are now focusing on MTB stuff more. This could just be me projecting my bias, but it feels like a lot of western consumer goods companies are getting blindsided by china right now, mostly due to the fact that they...

6/30/2026 11:44pm Personally it comes down to how and where people ride, for me, Rotorua isn’t packed full of rocks and I don’t smash wheels or tires round here even though most of my riding is on grade 5s. I’m on an old gen 9.8 rail at the moment and realistically don’t need a 750 wh battery 95% of the time and the thing is a tank. I like the Bosch motor from a reliability and power perspective and really don’t need the latest and greatest from Avinox. The gen 5 is meant to be quieter which is my only complaint with...

6/28/2026 12:54am Yeah its another weird tuning choice from Fox, they're a big deal about "pressure blanced" tuning this generation, but the tunes mostly have zero adjustment range which makes that all kind of pointless.....

6/27/2026 1:18pm I think it's just a byproduct of going to a monotube with a shimmed base valve, less adjustment range than a twin-tube. The base valve needs to be matched properly with the main piston tunes. New aftermarket 26/27 DHX2 comes with CL70 compression tune, which is middle of the road. Most of the factory OE tunes I have seen seem to be softer. You can definitely feel more oil moving through the system, than the older twin tube DHX2.

6/27/2026 3:49am If this is true, then the MY26 DHX2 might have the same dad as my old GRIP2 Fox 40 that has those highly decorative compression adjusters. I'm getting a feeling that every year, the only flow Fox products actually have takes them further away from the customer.

6/26/2026 10:22am I've been running TRP RS01E (40 euros per piece) in 223mm size with Saint calipers and will never look back to Shimano despite whatever they bring up as a brake disc.

6/25/2026 11:41am I mean it just came off as your typical fortune mag ceo jerk off interview. I will agree with and give props to trek’s investment in female athletes. Vali, Rachel, neff, Mosley. They have no issue funding around a female first and men second in mtb racing. for me reading the article explains a lot of how trek ended up in the shape it is today. But I agree burke doesn’t seem like a bad guy. But he is pretty full of himself and his views on things that ain’t got nothing to do with bikes. A couple of which...

6/23/2026 7:41am I've just picked up a new bike that came with Maven silver.. Having been a long time user of Formula Curas and more recently DHR-EVO, I'm really quite impressed with the Mavens. I had to do a bleed on the rear but according to the shop that's standard on new bikes. Have I got lucky, or are they actually not all bad at all?

6/19/2026 12:06am This reminds me, and this has probably already been covered on Tech rumours to some extent (at least the product), but something that I've not really seen before is happening in BC: a Chinese brand Seekrun is paying for a translator/marketing person, as well as designing engineer (who does not speak a lick of English) to travel around BC and hand out samples of their $319 CAD wireless dropper post. It is apparently a cartridge system, and has already been picked up by S4 for Canadian distribution, as well as another distributor operating seekrun.ca. I don't think the dropper itself...

6/17/2026 8:19pm I almost exclusively run Galfer Blacks on my Hope V4, cheap af and felt identical to all the other Galfer pads except for the green ones, which are more powerful, but working as a guide they wear too quickly to justify running them. I'm sure the 220 and 203mm Trp rotors help but I feel like there's more than enough bite and I've never felt any fading. I mostly ride on dry and dusty trails.
