It's almost like people don't remember the first round of gucci cnc cranks mostly all failing back in the day. If they aren't forged and then cnc'd to make them pretty they'll fail.

I'm getting flashbacks to the days when I would go through a whole role of Mastic tape and wrap my entire swingarm. Don't forget little bits of velcro on your chain device.

Thanks Primoz, that's super interesting. Looked up the part numbers for my shock, and apparently updating the damper body on my 2021 57.5mm Super Deluxe Coil with a bearing assembly to the new HBO damper body is only $122 msrp, plus my labor time. That's not bad at all.

The damper body with the HBO needle? Of course: https://www.sram.com/globalassets/document-hierarchy/spare-parts/spare-… Page 214 and 215

I assumed that to be true, but didn't want to complicate the conversation because this would be an advanced thing and not something someone would order off JensonUSA with their progressive air can. I've not seen pricing or a part number on the HBO damper body, but I would assume it's a good portion of a complete shock (another reason I thought it was very unlikely this was the case in this situation). Is there actually a Rockshox SKU for this part, as I'd be interested in looking at it?

you can upgrade a superdeluxe to HBO with a damper body upgrade (the required HBO needle is pressed in).

Was Finn in this new one or the old model for his season-compromising concussion last year? I'm in the market for the safest high-end DH helmet and it's tricky to tell if there are any significant safety improvements between the top-end DH offerings- Full 10, RPC, D4, this new one, and the 100% aircraft2... anyone out there measuring this stuff (Virginia Tech is not)?

Get the RPC! I had the first gen liquid inside one and crashed super hard enough to put some hairline cracks in the helmet and I was a little shaken up but no concussion. Bought the new MIPS version to replace it, I tried on the D4 and 100% aircraft2 and they don't even feel remotely as sturdy and safe. If you put your hands on both ends of the RPC and squeeze the shell doesn't flex one bit.

My next extended trip, likely in 2021, is going to be Bellingham to Pemberton with stops in between. I rode in Squamish for 3 days in 2018 and it was so great I've just wanted to go back.

I would be guessing it's compression damper assembly for fork with coil backed ifp (weird looking one and without coil installed). Interesting for sure.

There is a good thread on MTBR about grip2 at the moment, I can attest to running way too much pressure on my 180mm 38 but I also like a linear fork so 0 spacers. I have a factory 38. I swapped over to a performance fork (Fit Grip Sweep damper) while my CSU is getting warrantied, I preferred it much more. Simple and effective compression adjustment that actually works (less requirement for a million psi) and the LSR just works fine.

The damping on a Grip 2 is about the static friction of the seals on the fork. Less than ideal. It's strange that there isn't a consensus still about damping rates, some pro's still ride fully open, other on Ohlins have a magnitude more damping. Poor Fox DH riders just have to rely on the spring to hold them up, hence the 6 tokens and huge pressure to stop it collapsing through compressions.
