All fabrication done by myself in the garage. I have small benchtop mill, benchtop lathe, and an oxy-propane brazing set up. Jig is also garage made out of cold rolled steel a design copied from a number of Colorado builders that use a similar design. The first single pivot frame was build with hand files, hacksaw and a vise. No jig and no machines, just a couple of pieces of cheap aluminum angle to float the rear axle in space relative to the front end. A full size paper drawing was done to figure it all out.

First rule of frame design, ignore marketing crap. Compare a whole bunch of different designs in Linkage and realize that everyone is slowly converging on the same thing. The window of preferred anti-squat and leverage ratios is narrowing in on roughly 100% anti-squat at sag and a LR of 20-25% linear progression starting around 2.8 to 3.0. Anti-rise seems to still be down to designer tastes or a compromise of the chosen linkage platform / shock location. The more time you spend in Linkage the more you realize everything has already been done...and thus why the window of optimized designs...

They made a running change to remove the bushings on the current gen of bikes. My 2022 warden has bushings and my new chilcotin has bearings. I’m curious how the new one piece shock link is an improvement and if they will sell them for the older bikes.

OK, but... "based on reach": Reach relative to what? Height? Wingspan? And in what relationship? Linear proportion? Something else? "prioritize grip": How? And to what degree? How much of grip is actually a function of fit vs. stance, technique, tire pressure, etc? "adapted to rider size": Again, what part of a rider's size? Arm length? Shoulder width? Torso height? Hand span? And what should that relationship be? Not saying any of these are bad ideas--in fact, I think they're probably good general principles--but for them to be provably better (or worse) than any other system out there, they'd need to...

How's this for starters: - We size a frame based on reach. - We prioritize grip in the pursuit of fun. - Bar height and width must be adapted to rider size (shoutout C*ckpit thread). - Saddle height can be determined as with road fitting, but not saddle tilt. I put everything in bold, so it must be true.

Thats an interesting one, but Keith has been pretty open about the brand and surely has an account here as well (he answers customer questions on some other forums, not sure if mtbr or nsmb, but one of those) and always said they keep everything pretty minimum and optimised and there are like 5 people empoyed by Banshee in total. And IIRC they operate in batches so they dont order a lot of bikes to be kept in storage which reduces the risk. They have been around for a long time too so they must have been through thick and...

It seemed like Nukeproof and Vitus were both healthy and growing. There's a Vitus DH bike development video on the Vital homepage right now. That's the downside of being owned by a big conglomerate, it doesn't always matter if your business is longterm viable so long as it's short-term helpful to gut you or shutter you. So lame.

That was an excellent article. Shops can be their own worst enemy, and crap customer service [ESPECIALLY towards women] is enemy #1. Regardless of the unpleasantness inflicted upon the IBDs by the big brands, if a shop doesn't nail that customer experience, they're going to be roadkill eventually. Seriously, how hard is it to say hi to somebody when they walk in the door? Or treat your customers the same regardless of their appearance? The author's other comments about growth having to come from outside the existing customer base via the mobility market also rang true for me. Lots of...
