How much experience do you have with testing mass produced products that go on the market? I'm afraid you're vastly overestimating the amount of testing being done on products sold to consumers... BTW, the Tyee in aluminium has internal routing holes on the frame, so can be routed NOT through the headset. The Al is thus cheaper AND better.

Haha headset cable routing, another bunch of wankers at propain! Edit: At least the Aluminium model can be had with normal cable routing

From 5 dev's website: "5DEV is a division of 5th Axis, a world leader in manufacturing complex components for the aerospace and medical industries." They machine aero and med parts that are designed by others. They're a high end machine shop, they also design and make an extensive line of workpiece holders. 5th Axis grew very quickly, that doesn't happen unless they're smart and talented. But industrial or manufacturing engineering expertise isn't the same as mechanical design expertise, though of course there's some overlap. And anytime you branch out into a new field there will be a learning curve. The...

The guy was a wanker for sure but wow it's not hard to take a step back and simply refuse to engage with a guy like that. Just provide him warranty service, no more no less... Rather than being a twit about it and then rescinding the offer. Using an open truss design like that for a crank is ridiculously stupid anyway. It's objectively bad engineering, the section is unable to deal with torsion efficiently and the stress concentrations will be hell for fatigue. I'm guessing they saw some cool-looking "generative design" products (which is a very bad place to...

I just went through and watched all the guys instagram videos again and missed the part where 5dev were aware of the likelihood of failure. They acknowledged it broke and offered TWO pairs of their stronger freeride cranks or a full refund (which I’d take over a formal apology any day). Was pretty clear the guy posting was a troll from the get go when he responded to their initial message of “how can we help” with “bruh” and a face palm emoji… unfortunate that he got a defective crank but he’s got enough whine it makes me wanna prep...

Yeah, it's a real shame Cam went straight to socials before the situation was resolved. Especially for someone in the trade. It's shit his crank snapped but he should have been handled in private first. Now he looks like a bit a of dick too. 5Dev were on the backfoot from the start and thats a shitty position to put someone in.

Regardless of how good the product may be. If you have such a guy in charge of your social media, I really can’t trust that company in any way. I hope this man gets fired and they get someone helping Cam.

That was a true JRA with video evidence! I went through three sets of those first Race Face cranks that were supposed to have been forged in quick succession. After the third set I told them to just send me something else as I didn't trust their cranks. I got a bottom bracket that broke on the first ride and gave away the t shirt.

It's almost like people don't remember the first round of gucci cnc cranks mostly all failing back in the day. If they aren't forged and then cnc'd to make them pretty they'll fail.

I'm getting flashbacks to the days when I would go through a whole role of Mastic tape and wrap my entire swingarm. Don't forget little bits of velcro on your chain device.

Thanks Primoz, that's super interesting. Looked up the part numbers for my shock, and apparently updating the damper body on my 2021 57.5mm Super Deluxe Coil with a bearing assembly to the new HBO damper body is only $122 msrp, plus my labor time. That's not bad at all.

I assumed that to be true, but didn't want to complicate the conversation because this would be an advanced thing and not something someone would order off JensonUSA with their progressive air can. I've not seen pricing or a part number on the HBO damper body, but I would assume it's a good portion of a complete shock (another reason I thought it was very unlikely this was the case in this situation). Is there actually a Rockshox SKU for this part, as I'd be interested in looking at it?

you can upgrade a superdeluxe to HBO with a damper body upgrade (the required HBO needle is pressed in).
