Id be really interested to have you guys try this bike with a stock Fox coil vs the Sprindex. It has a 20% progression built in to each model, and while they (and others) claim that progressive springs only get firmer at the end of the travel, I and some of my customers have not found this to be the case. Yeah, in my opinion the upgrade to EP8 doesn't make that much sense if you like the characteristic of the e8000. Also the EP8 rattles more than the e8000. Depending on the frame you can have a pretty siltent bike with the e8000 but not so much with the EP8 or EP801. An upgrade thats well worth it would be from e7000 to e8000 without having to change cables. If you use the bigger battery BT-8016 there is also a more solid metal mount but you can also use the old one if you remove some plastic. Also the software...

This is why I think the low powered ebike genre is a winner. One time I busted a spoke and so I just swapped the rear wheel from my normal bike but forgot to swap the magnetic sensor in the disc rotor. I showed up at the trailhead with my buddy from out of town but no working ebike, so I pedaled that sucker up a 3,000 foot climb anyways with the battery and motor in place. I didn't set any PRs but it wasn't really that much harder than a comparable enduro bike which would have been 8ish pounds...

I have two tow ropes, one tows the eldest, and he toes the youngest. Like you say, it opens up descending that they otherwise wouldn't access.

That a great question and I didn't factor this myself prior to buying. I still had a really good 2 years ownership period with 0 issue related to electronics or motor, but I realized once I started trying to sell my eMTB that it was more of a pain in the ass versus selling a regular bike. That will get cleaned up a bit for production and will have a polycarbonate or similar fairing that is going to snap over it and onto the carbon frame. Won't be super noticeable as you're not going to see the linkage and it won't hang below a 32T chainring.

I think it's the exact opposite. Which is a big reason they stopped/did one short run of production of the updated Enduro with UDH on it. They know that this low slung design will get people super eager to buy. The performance and looks will be top notch, especially when it's finalized with carbon, etc.

Were the chainstays actually 435? Or 442mm as measured by another large MTB platform?

Current shimano motors have the same mount standard. Also mostly all other parts are compatible and there is the possibility of buying spare motors. But the downside is that servicing or repairing the motor is tricky as shimano doesn't offer any spare parts and when the torque sensor fails you can only salvage it for parts. With most other motors like bosch and Brose this is not possible as the motor mounts changed between generations. But the spare part situation is a bit better.

I always bought my ebike used at a low price. I don't race my e-bike so it just got hands me down part from my other "race-ready" bikes. Unfortunately, my latest motor (Bosh on a Trek) died and I was shocked by how bad the warranty and service were. You guys just gotta sell your electric mopeds and buy the next one so you can forget about the schmuck who buys who buys it used will eventually be forced to dispose of it in the least ecologically documentable way & the polluto-ped simply vanishes & we don't speak of it again. One question I have, is how much do regular MTBs bought for 5-8k get sold for, especially these days? Over the last 15 years I have bought about 10 bikes ranging in value from 1.4k to 2.8k, some of which simply died, most of which I sold for roughly 50% of the original price (usually with quite a few new parts one them for the sale). That is why I took my time and got good value ebikes for under 5k each, to reduce the losses when comes time to sell them. Maybe more expensive models hold their value better...
