It's fascinating to guess at what Spesh was thinking with the Stumpjumper. I think the key is to remember that, at the end of the day, bike companies (especially large bike companies) exist to make money, not make bikes for the people that hang out on bike forums. Riffing off the Toyota Tacoma/4runner analogy and making up numbers, 95% of those vehicles are pavement princesses. People buy them and use them for pavement and highway driving, but they don't actually perform very well at that. Similarly, 95% of the people that buy a carbon Stumpjumper never ride it anywhere close...

All this leads me to believe they'll release an alloy budget version like they did with the Epic and Chisel full squish that works with cable drivetrains. Hopefully it's mullet compatible (not restricted to S1/S2) otherwise those are two massive misses compared to the Evo. Other option to fill the gap between new stumpy and enduro might be a revamped Status 160?

On the Stumpy and proprietary shock. In the pinkbike podcast they discussed a new patented shock design that they use on the world cup. The way I heard it was the intention was to adjust the damper curve control the last 20% of travel in a more controlled manor than with tokens (or whatever a shock ramp is called). They said in order to get the feeling they want for 80% of the riding that they needed less progression of the design, but then blows through the end with a subset of aggressive riders (which is a common thing I...

Doesn't have to be S tier build to have proprietary suspension. Take the Trek Supercaliber or Specialized Epic WC for example. They just omit the kashima coating and fancy components on cheaper builds. Regardless, less stoked to hear that Specialized might be going back to proprietary suspension. It is highly unlikely that Fox is releasing another shock in their newly revised lineup (Float SL, Float, Float X). It sounds like this new stumpy would be using a modified version of the new Float.

I think the shock was also hinted at in the most recent podcast between specialized and PB. Really curious about how it performs and pretty cool to see a frame manufacturer working in tandem with a company like Fox to push innovation in a meaningful way (beyond electronic gnomes spinning compression dials).

That’ll be the Stumpy. Fair play to Specialized for keeping it out of sight so well

I have an unreleased 140/150mm bike in the shop that comes stock with a Fox 36 and Mavens type build kit with a completely new inline fox shock with the bike manufacturers logo on it and a HUGE air can. It's very strange to see an inline shock on a build like this so I'm interested in whats going on with it. Apparently next week we'll know. It kind of looks like an RP23 with a high volume air can but 1.5x the size

I guess it’s not a 100% confirmation, but the “s1000” nomenclature is used by Sram currently for a lower end, non series, MTB crank set. Maybe it’s just a place holder name for the unreleased drive chain, but it was interesting to see it none the less. As for the bike, it has a pretty neat little solution to a...

Good, the sooner tear offs are banned all round the better. And when a company gets round to making a remote roll off system loic can have an extra button on his bar

Slight switch of topic… I saw the part spec. sheet for an unreleased bike, and one of the models was labeled as having “Sram s1000 Transmission”…I guess confirming mechanical Transmission to be incoming soon?

I don't know, but the worst steel bolts I've ever used on a bicycle have still been better than the best aluminum bolts.
