Wild throwback! I remember being so star struck that we were shuttling with Semenuk. He was as cool and mellow as imagined, and about twice as fast on a DH bike as expected. That day was definitely a core memory for me. I always wonder if Brandon even remembers spending a day riding some meh trails with a bunch of downhill groms that were riding way too hard to try and impress him lol

8/5/2026 3:04pm I noticed this too as I just blew out my second to last pair. I bet they had a glut of product left over from the covid boom and everything was on deep discount. Sucks because those are stellar shoes for an amazing price. Wish I would have bought 4-5 pairs instead of two.

This is pretty much my philosophy as well. I'm one of the few weirdos that was never willing to give up gripshift, so it's on all my Eagle drivetrains, and it is simple to fly through gears as fast as you want will spinning at low power. With any significant power, you better be good at easing up strategically during shifts though, or suffer the brutal clicking and popping noises that ensue. I know you're not going to want to hear this, but: On these SPD test rides, have you tried thinking about something other than your feet? If you focus on your feet while you're in clips, they're going to feel weird if you're used to flats, and weird is likely going to progress to bad and then terrible the more you think about it. After some more reflection and since this hit the front page I have a few more additions. I'm glad people enjoyed the post and it's fun to share the experience. Trails: Mid-guard is somehow always in primo shape and is like a blue version of Del boca, for sure worth it. I just got back from a week long trip to whistler where due to some family issues (sick pet) and friends cancelling last minute, I was mostly riding alone. A bike without a drivetrain is essentially a velocipede which is the precursor to the bicycle as we know it. Thus, historically speaking it has more heritage than any other two wheeled human powered vehicle. Plus they are fun to ride and will unequivocally make you a better rider on any bike.

I had a wild experience the other day. I got caught in a major downpour and hadn't washed my helmet in years. The contents of the liner and helmet started washing down into my eyes and I had to walk out with it off because it was burning my eyes so badly. I'd start to improve a bit, clean it all off, then put it on and ride a bit before my eyes started to burn again. If you live somewhere rainy in the summer...wash it before it gets washed for you down your face

When the dried salt on my helmet starts to really accumulate, I take it in the shower & use a little bit of Dr. Bronner's to clean the padding & straps. Important to keep in mind that Mads is probably riding more each week than most of us ride in a month, and he gets as many helmets as he wants from his sponsor, and he probably can't use them for more than a season anyway because of changing sponsors/team kit designs/etc. So he's not worrying about helmet longevity.

Does periodically dunking my head in a stream and squishing/head banging out all the excess water mid ride count? But seriously, I try to wash/rinse the helmet after each ride. If it's still wet for next ride at least it's just water and not super concentrated salty head juice.
