Just look at the comments to the podcast. Way more people praising yt and Marcus then the other way around. So no. I do not think the general consensus from the public is the same consensus that vital forum nerds are taking from it. We live in a world where misinformation is the norm. The idea of here is one side of the story and people can do their own research elsewhere is wildly irresponsible when it comes to anything that actually matters. Especially when you don’t explicitly tell the listener they need to do so. But better yet if...

To me, it seemed like MF('r) genuinely didn't understand the insolvency process or side of business at all leading up to YT falling into it. He straight up admitted it in the pod. TBF I don't either but it seems like until mid '25 there was an assumption that they could just keep "powering through, business as usual" until it was way too late and the house of cards fell. Sweet management chops. He addresses the insolvency like it was an unforeseeable natural disaster rather than gradual foreseeable mismanagement by the company itself. "How could this happen to ME?!" type...

@Downtime Podcast Been busy and have sporadically been able to follow the thread. I haven’t listened to the DT podcast. Haven’t listened to Brines debrief. But I do know this. MF asked/paid Chris to provide a platform. Chris did that. Jumping on Chris for not asking the right questions is crap. MF was on the back foot from the company crisis. Chris didn’t put him there. MF had every opportunity to at least clear the air and admit wrongdoing. At any point during the pod MF could have said “Let me say this about that”. MF had an open mic...

At what point did I say I agree with people doing it? At what point did I say I think it is smart? This is the problem with the helmet convo and why I always end up deleting my answer and not even bothering. Somebody asked a question and got an answer. It's not a 'moral high ground competition'. Everybody here is in agreeance that helmets should be worn. Everyone, including me. Also in case you didn't read my post because it was too long. I wear helmets now regardless of bike. So you're shaking your fist at the sky...

Honestly, we're probably all just huge nerds. Or maybe, the sad reality of it is that cycling in general is such an expensive and elitist sport that it mainly attracts people who are financially quite well off. And in most western countries, academic success is very strongly linked to financial prosperity. Rich people, statistically speaking, still have much better chances in academia and generally much better access to higher education. Therefor it is probably not a coincidence that people who ride bikes seem have above average education. I'd like to see a venn diagram on this sociology of cycling.

Hi everyone, I’m Daniel. I’m responsible for product management at TQ and have been with the company for about eight years. My background is in mechanical engineering, so even though I’m not in a pure engineering role anymore, the technical side of things still interests me a lot. I’m also a passionate e-mountainbiker, so these topics are genuinely close to me. I’m happy to see all the comments here — feel free to send any feedback, questions, or criticism our way.

Another former BMX rider to jump in Smile I‘ve had the similar story riding 20“ bike without helmet but was even more stupid to keep doing that while crashing and having concussions. And I did buy a full face for my first MTB, too Smile Not trying to justify this, as you fairly say, stupid/bad habit, plus I do have...

you make a good point here and I commented on YouTube saying the same thing but Markus contradicts himself multiple times throughout the interview with pretty major issues that just get ignored by Chris. Two good examples are where he blames the athletes for not staying with the "family" but hides behind bankruptcy when it comes to reversing the equation. Chris doesnt ask any follow up questions. Another time where he talks about the fire sale and talks about how the company was in a bad position and they were seeking cash injections and they had the sale to raise...

Culture. If foreign cultures around the world can stick bones through their nose, worship cows, or marry off children... You can't understand why some people don't wear helmets? People legit used to just not wear helmets on bikes up until like... The 90s? Maybe early 2000s? (they were only required on the tour de france around 2003-2005) As a (former) BMXer it's funny cuz... I wore no helmets on any bike, until I got on a mountain bike. The second I got on a mountain bike I said FUCK this I need a helmet and pads. This shit is dangerous...

I don't understand what you are getting at. YT made a financial commitment to those racers, those racers fulfilled their end of the agreement and Markus failed to pay them what he owed them. Whether you think a race team is a good investment or not, a business owner should pay their obligations. While it may be legal to not pay the team members it isn't ethical.

I tried to make this clear in my follow-up audio note, but I’m really not trying to throw shade at @Downtime Podcast or Chris. Two things can be true: Chris is one of the best hosts in the MTB world, and the Markus episode missed the mark for some of us. No podcast hits a home run every time. Every show I listen to has episodes where I think, “not for me” or “this one whiffed.” That’s normal. And the same is obviously true for my own content. In a way, Chris let Markus make his own bed. Anyone who...

+1 on Downtime here! The pre- and post-race shows are among the holy triumvirate of DH racing content (with WynTV and Vital Raw), absolutely not to be missed. The guests are often great but as hogfly says, the Downtime Goes Downhill series is evidence that the host n dem are interesting on their own. I have that as the best execution of that vibe in DH, it’s relatable and a really cool insight into the British DH racing scene. So yeah. Downtime good! Flossmann bad though. What’s noteworthy about Flossmann’s appearance is that he was given an open mic to...

Chris, lots of people sacrifice and do hard work. Usually to make profits for someone or lot’s of someone else. Lots of us here make huge sacrifices cause we love mtb at financial loss. Both in how it affects our careers and the money we spend. And I’m not talking on gear, but rather the millions if not billions of dollars people spend a year after year creating trails, races, etc out of pocket with zero profit or even for free. You start every podcast asking listeners for money to keep it going. Which is completely fine. I have zero...

Watching the Downtime Podcast with Marcus Flossman . I just got super upset. He talks about arranging a legal way to deliver bikes to customers while under court administration where he bought the bikes to deliver to the customers with his own money but then later on in the video, he’s basically shrugging 🤷🏼‍♂️ his shoulders when it came to supporting YT Mob , says the court wouldn’t let them pay the riders or the team. Riders are paid as independent contractors. So we now know he bought the company back. My question is why the heck didn’t he enter...

Chris, That is precisely my definition of paid work. If you are unhappy with the amount you should have charged more. It’s not like Marcus wouldn’t have paid it. And taking a weekend away from family to sit down with Marcus and give him a softee interview to spin his bs sounds like the worst use of time. Generally enjoy your show. But personally I think this episode is highly regrettable. I agree that your general style is good when it comes to interviewing racers and folk with no agenda. But Marcus paid you because he has an agenda. Not...

On one hand, I shouldn’t give a F about what Markus says. I did my three years at YT, met amazing people, learnt a lot and got paid not too bad. On the other hand, given the number and kinds of situation where Markus showed zero accountability for his own actions and screwed up both customers and employees that I...
