4/27/2026 4:58pm I think the biggest unique thing about Surrons and the like is that they are near silent. This is what lets kids get away with all kinds of shenanigans. Older generations had dirt bikes but you'd hear that coming from a long way allowing quite a bit less tomfoolery in normal public places, like parks, greenbelts, trails, etc. Heck around here during Thanksgiving last year there were ongoing issues of young teens riding Surrons into a local grocery store! https://www.imfromdenver.com/trending/arvada-teens-ride-e-bikes-into-ki…

4/14/2026 3:33am There just aren’t enough TQ bikes here (US). The Trek and Propain are close. Trek needs to bring back M/L sizing and pricing accounting for a post Avinox m2 world. Amflow PX — if the weights are accurate — means you can detune to TQ levels, have almost the same SL weight but get that “sun is setting gotta turbo hustle back to the car” mode.

4/12/2026 6:04am I wouldn’t worry about e-bikes ending trail access with pretty rare exception of wilderness areas and trails that are entry points to them and hard to access trails that joeys can get themselves in trouble on but likely would never access if they had to muscle it there. For the most part it will mean more users and more volounteers which equates to more access instead of less. Again i expect exceptions but for the most part i don’t think e bikes are bad for mtbers who like to pedal.

3/4/2026 12:35am It wasn't that long ago that "15 minute cities" was the latest far right snarl word/term. It didn't hit as hard in Australia but it still comes up from time to time. I work in transport planning and the hysteria around it completely baffled me. How can anyone possibly delude themselves into believing that the idea of city planning based around safety and accessibility for all transport modes and users is some kind of grand (communist?) conspiracy? A bloke I worked with on a few projects once raised Elon Musk's ire on Twitter by calling out his nonsense. It was...

2/17/2026 4:17am Their member benefits discounts can significantly (or completely) offset the subscription cost (note these are NOT affiliate links, EC does not get a share of any sales). Here's a sampling:

2/16/2026 2:19pm escape collective is great, mainly for Geek Warning and threaded...but it is very expensive to pay for one podcast. I cancelled my subscription at the end of last year cause I couldn't justify it, but then they had a sale so I got one more year at a still expensive but justifiable price for awesome content.

2/16/2026 4:02am Apologies if this is too far off topic, but Escape Collective just announced they're now cash-flow neutral (they've been running a deficit since they launched). Pretty impressive when you consider how much high-quality content they put out and and doubly so that it's funded entirely by member subscriptions.

2/7/2026 8:40pm It’s actually wild that they didn’t start the stream and tell us this and then show us qualifying. No problem with the decision but a pretty big letdown the way it’s been handled.

2/5/2026 4:02am Hello! I admit I have seen the ”Shimano Reports Bike Maintenance a Hidden Barrier to Participation” title on the home page and I got curious. I didn't read the entire thing, nor did I read all the comments here, as I don't have time right now (but I will make some time to read), so excuse me, but I feel the urge to say something. From my understanding, Shimano is whining that in Europe people are cycling less, because bike maintenance is hindering them. Did I understand right? If yes, than I find Shimano to be at least a bit...

2/5/2026 3:46am With Thibaut on your team, most people aren’t going to care about why you made the move to bike racing. A lot of people are going to assume the worst about you, your team and your sponsors. This topic comes up every time he’s mentioned. It’s no coincidence that this was the only real question for you about the team. Who’s the 24/7 chaperone for Zoe? What’s the plan for keeping her feeling safe? An unsettled racer is just going to get hurt out on the track.

2/3/2026 4:34am Some observations from the Australian market. A lot of these seem to be in line with the industry's general problems right now, and specific problems publically acknowledged by some brands, but I wonder if there's more to it considering the small size of the ANZ market. Norco was, until recently, carried by national chain 99 Bikes. I'm interested to know which party ended that agreement. Canyon appears to have dramatically cut back its presence here. Its local "outlet" website no longer exists (I seem to recall either someone telling me or reading somewhere that this was going to happen), while...

2/3/2026 4:34am They also were one of the last to really start discounting bikes. I was thinking about getting an older slash (non high pivot) and instead of discounting it they were selling it at full price and even made a “limited” build spec well after the new one came out. Well after the covid boom was clearly fading. I know a lot of “premium” brands really try to avoid discounting. Especially shortly after a big boom where they couldn’t keep product. But had they been much quicker to act they would’ve sold a lot more bikes before the music stopped.

1/30/2026 4:07pm In Australia at least the Trek stores aren't real local bike shops. They are 'Trek shops' and stock only trek and bontrager with a handful of other accessories. Even then they dont stock at lot of small trek items and it can take quite some time to order parts in. It's not even worth ordering in anything that isn't Trek...
