Background My initial reason for trying it (in addition to pure curiosity) was that I use Lezyne pumps with the ABS-1 Pro Chuck head that you screw onto the valve. For years people have been asking for MGUs from SRAM and Shimano and there has long been speculation that those brands didn’t get involved because they didn’t want to undermine their own market share of expensive, high wear components. In doing so they’ve left their flank wide open for a Chinese company to swallow up the drivetrain market while solving issues riders have complained about for decades. Agreed that this motor/CVT is predictable, inevitable, and nonetheless a really BFD for the ebike market and makers of traditional derailleur-driven drivetrains. I know I'm going to sound like a broken record here, but high performance eMTB sales represent a very small market, whereas the real effects of this are going to be seen in the touring/commuter/pavement pounder market. I'd wager Shimano and SRAM sells 100 times more derailleurs/shifters/cassettes to the touring/commuter/pavement pounder ebike market vs. what they sell for high end eMTBs.

I think the one advantage a US operations based bike company may have (for the longest time into the future) when compared to a Chinese company is accessible customer support. The number of warranty issues I’ve had with bike frames and suspension products has to be close to 50%. I’m currently working through a multi-frame warranty issue as we speak. I have no reason to believe that a Chinese based company is going to have exceptionally better quality than the current established brands. I would hate for all the TQ bikes to disappear, for whatever reason they are often to most compelling models to me. But I guess take this with a grain of salt, I have never ridden an ebike, and im also not in the market for one.

I think the biggest unique thing about Surrons and the like is that they are near silent. This is what lets kids get away with all kinds of shenanigans. There just aren’t enough TQ bikes here (US). The Trek and Propain are close. Trek needs to bring back M/L sizing and pricing accounting for a post Avinox m2 world. Amflow PX — if the weights are accurate — means you can detune to TQ levels, have almost the same SL weight but get that “sun is setting gotta turbo hustle back to the car” mode.

Real mtb people will figure out the tq60 power level is good. Non cyclist will need more

I wouldn’t worry about e-bikes ending trail access with pretty rare exception of wilderness areas and trails that are entry points to them and hard to access trails that joeys can get themselves in trouble on but likely would never access if they had to muscle it there. For the most part it will mean more users and more volounteers which equates to more access instead of less. Again i expect exceptions but for the most part i don’t think e bikes are bad for mtbers who like to pedal.
