They also were one of the last to really start discounting bikes. I was thinking about getting an older slash (non high pivot) and instead of discounting it they were selling it at full price and even made a “limited” build spec well after the new one came out. Well after the covid boom was clearly fading. I know a lot of “premium” brands really try to avoid discounting. Especially shortly after a big boom where they couldn’t keep product. But had they been much quicker to act they would’ve sold a lot more bikes before the music stopped.

In Australia at least the Trek stores aren't real local bike shops. They are 'Trek shops' and stock only trek and bontrager with a handful of other accessories. Even then they dont stock at lot of small trek items and it can take quite some time to order parts in. It's not even worth ordering in anything that isn't Trek...

They're all really good. Performance Process is mega-road-nerd-nirvana and Spin Cycle is highly entertaining roadie snark and Wheel Talk does a fantastic job telling women's racing stories. Geek Warning is my favorite, solid bike and tool nerd coverage w/ good technical Q&A

Pretty sure there are international discount codes, Escape has tons of members in Australia and Europe. Nobody has even mentioned their podcasts, which to me are worth the price of membership alone.

I finally wrapped up my XT vs. XT brake test, here for your viewing pleasure - https://www.vitalmtb.com/features/comparing-shimano-xt-brake-performanc… The TLDR: - New brakes worked much more consistently. Never had any wandering bite point issues and the lever feel stayed solid in varying conditions. When I tested the new XTR brakes last year, I had a similar experience. I think the new oil/seals play a huge part in this, and the 'stiffer caliper' probably has some effect too. Don't @ me about - New reach adjust dial is a pain to turn IMO. I like the grip of the old one and...

Looks like Daprela is without a team? Rogue Racing is Unno now, and he's not listed. Kinda surprising for a guy that had multiple top 10 finishes last year. Seems like his prior issues continue to haunt him.

Yeah, i agree with you. Moi Moi was keeping enduro going with his vlogs and was a more reliable and timely source of information on the races than the UCI. Charley Murray has already mentioned his race program for 2026 will be "slightly different." No idea, what that means though.

I'm pretty sure Cam and his brother knew, or at least had a good idea, of what needed to be done as a business. This wasn't their first venture. Given what we've seen recently, it sounds like the potential of the US market was realized and they wanted more control, and the profits, of it..

The bike industry as a whole could have sold more than they did in 2020 and most likely throughout the whole 2021. However, the supply chains simply were not able to cope with the demand. And I completely understand that, for some companies (those that essentially everyone needed parts from) it was impossible to give exact lead times. Their systerm could not scale for that demand and that's why you suddenly heard about lead times of 700-800 days. In reality it could have been 300 or 1000. Simply because no one could accurately scale it up just like that, because...

Thanks @Sacki , for the detail! @jeff.brines how about asking Sacki if he's up for a podcast? I best we'd all be into hearing more about Bike Yoke!

It's a very interesting and impressive interview. Thank you, Sam, for taking the time and going so much into detail and also Jeff, of course for trying and then making this happen! It was interesting to hear how YT experienced the turbulent times during covid. For us, I can say, that we already saw OE orders being postponed and cancelled already around Q2 2022. But the more important thing happened to me in April 2021. There was one particular OE customer who used to need around 1,500 post per year from us. End of 2019 (pre-Covid) we received a projected...

Yeah @jeff.brines the podcast was amazing, thank you! I think that Sam actually addressed pretty much everything that Markus said before by simply voicing the fact that they both were managing directors sitting in the same room, making decisions together. I can only admire such a professional and neat way to call out the BS. Lots to learn!

@jeff.brines the Sam Nichols podcast was absolutely awesome. Really great insight to not only the situation YT was in, but also how bike oems handle their business, as well as an anecdotal case study of how PE/VC actually happens. It's nice being able to digest that paradigm with a case study that is relevant to my interests... makes what is otherwise a pretty dry subject if you're not in the thick of it and makes it palatable. Thanks Jeff, great work!
