mntnmrtn Liked a product review 2018 Marin Rift Zone 1: Good Times for Less Money

-Awesome build and performance for the price -Threaded BB -Boost 12x148mm rear end -120mm travel front/rear (210x50mm rear shock) with great kinematics -Awesome customer support from Marin + 5-year warranty on the frame HOW I CHOSE IT I read a few European first rides of the bike and they all seemed very enthusiastic. The Hawk Hill (same suspension platform, with 27.5" wheels) reviews were also super positive, and I couldn't find any flaw in the bike itself. Having read an interview with Marin's MTB product manager, it seemed like that was the bike I was looking for, but it was...

sideshow Added a reply to What Enduro bike for someone new to sport?
11/29/2018 10:51am Glad you found that helpful! The Torque and Taniwha would both be wicked shred sleds for your neck of the woods. They are definitely a little pricier, but you'd be very sorted with those out of the box (Taniwha has build options you'd get to pick). That said, the deal on the Spectral is a screamin' one and an excellent...

11/28/2018 9:01am You are in a priiiiime location to be diving into MTB! Based on your location, you have quite a few pretty dope options. If you're planning on making MTB your new priority and investing in high-grade equipment, you can really reach for some cool bikes. The "Enduro" bike market has a lot to offer, along with the "Trail" bike market...

11/27/2018 2:24pm i love the generally civil discussion going on here. keep it going! to see guys like jesse in here is awesome too. i also want to spam out erik saunder's Inside Line interview for those who may not have listened yet. there's a ton of great general racing insight from him (recorded 4 months ago or so) - https://www.vitalmtb.com/features/The-Inside-Line-Podcast-Erik-Saunders…

11/26/2018 7:05pm When brands win in racing, it's not about selling the specific product that was used on race day but about selling the brand as a performance brand and the more commercial grade products that are actually sold. Think F1, Moto GP, or even something more tangible like alpine ski racing- you know how many FIS-level race skis are sold? Very, very few. Ultimately, those races aren't used to sell the products of the moment, they are used to sell the brand and the more commercial products that they influence.

11/26/2018 2:56pm Referencing Jeff's comments in his latest post about "It hasn't been explicitly explained to the racers how this works, and to assume a bunch of mountain bike riders, most of whom never competed in an Olympic sport, are going to go check all their supplements or whatever is silly. It won't happen." I'm pleased that you have such a positive...

11/26/2018 2:37pm Huh? Stars? Nothing matters? How is that at all analogous to me suggesting performance enhancing drugs are more varied in their nature than you are suggesting. Again, you keep saying the EWS rules are clear. They aren't. http://www.enduroworldseries.com/ews-general/ews-rule-book/#_Toc5075851… Outside of the race in France (which was tested under the French anti-doping policy) there isn't consistent structured PED testing at the EWS carried out to one specific protocol. Its not clear if they'll test in competition? Out of competition? Just the top riders? Random riders? What list is being tested against? How do you submit for a TUE? Where can an...

11/26/2018 9:06am I just meant, keep it classy. I know this is all pretty cut and dry regarding the samples - I'd actually like to know why a B sample was left out. I am not as well-versed on the rules and understanding how riders comply and/or self-govern (reading more about it now). Very interesting Re: picture of sups and circled container...

11/26/2018 8:53am Interesting news. I'd suggest reading the interviews Jared and Richie just did on the subject first. Then read about the substances. Then remember that this is all still in the early days of being dealt with - don't get ugly on here, let the process cast a verdict. And, unlike the Team Rumors thread, keep things factual if possible and...
sideshow Started a new thread Coil Shock + Trail Bike
11/25/2018 3:09am Ok Vital Think Tank, I've got a topic I'm interested in exploring: Coil Shocks on Trail Bikes, more specifically, short-stroke coils on 150-or-less travel bikes. I have a coil on my 160 adventure mobile, and it's sublime. That much I know, and as we've seen from the bike checks on here and the EWS, everyone is onto the concept with...

11/20/2018 7:14pm I missed this earlier! Hot damn, finally - this is wicked news. I'll be looking out for that! @RNeves That all makes perfect sense, got it! I'd go with the CC then. It is an affordable and highly tunable shock, which also has a very effective climb lever. I think you'll be quite happy with it!

11/20/2018 7:11pm Hi everyone, We have dual rate rear springs for the big bikes (76mm stroke) ordered and on the way, just in the middle of trying to optimise the 65mm stroke springs for the smaller bikes and knock as much weight out as possible without compromising any performance characteristics. For anyone interested, they will be utilising all of the high performance options from our manufacturer, such as high tensile steel wire (the same wire used on WRC spec springs), the same processing, manufacturing and finishing processes used on factory level Motorsport springs, designs accounting for spring preload and safety travel to...

11/20/2018 1:55pm Bang for buck, I'd just get a Fox DHX2 with the climb switch. I have this shock on my Zerode, and it's pretty ideal. When I was in NZ, the main trail loop I'd do was lapping up a steeeeep 20 mins tarmac climb to wicked descents. The little dial was a savior. The suggestion about looking into [i]service options...
sideshow Added a reply to FOX DPX2 or Float X2 rear shock
11/14/2018 8:16am The real question: What bike is that shock going on? The Float X2 is a much more versatile shock, as it's designed for more abuse. The DPX2 is the step down from the Float X2, it really was designed to fill the gap for riders like yourself. With that said, the bigger can, oil flow, and general robust built of...
