sideshow Added a new Feature A New Era of American DH Racing

Neko Mulally won the U.S. Open in the Amateur classic in 2008, and now, nearly a decade later, has won the U.S. Open as a Pro. “I really wanted to win," he said. Mountain Creek is his home turf...
Today at the Pro GRT was a lot better than expected, on all fronts. We woke up to sunshine and a light breeze, I ate a breakfast burrito on the chairlift, the track dried out, and the lines got rutted...

1/4/2022 5:18pm
Spilly, Swolinator, Steve Walton has acquired a few nicknames over the years, and there is a story behind each one. At 17 he's not your average teenager. He's a resourceful guy, going to any and many...

Windham Mountain is a legendary East Coast track. First raced here in 2008, its debut was met with resounding praise. It was steep, loose, fast, and gnarly and would become a paradigm shift for racing...

1/4/2022 5:18pm
Summer in the Catskills is a beautiful time. It's warm, scenic, and lush. However, the Pro GRT weekend in Windham, New York, was a dice roll on weather, with everyone checking the forecast like a...

sideshow Added a new Feature Blue Ribbon Banter: Gwinning Killed The MTB Star

1/4/2022 3:33pm
by Zach Faulkner I know he didn’t mean to, but I think Aaron Gwin accidentally ruined DH racing. It was a slow build up, but it happened. He showed up one day to a World Cup aboard a Yeti 303 and bar...

sideshow Added a new Feature Blue Ribbon Banter: One Life, One Ride

1/4/2022 3:33pm
Before we get into this first article, I'd like to say how stoked we are at Vital that Zach (aka "sideshow") has agreed to write his Blue Ribbon Banter column. This is the first of many. He already...

Oh, it's definitely supposed to be for spectator access. Maybe this was cheaper than a shipping container, given covid demand? The funny thing is a shipping container drop wouldn't have created so much electronic venom! Hopefully the crew is also putting time into clearing drains in the lower woods? I think Mr. Leader was the last person to do that.... Keeping the water flowing seems like it should probably be a priority at least commensurate with stuntz...

hmm, is IMBA Trail Solutions and Snowshoe Corporate this out of touch with the zeitgeist of racing? I get wanting to make something “memorable” to “keep up” with Gravity Logic projects at Trestle, Bryce, Thunder, but this seems like a feature just built as a marketing stunt for IMBA or a “me too” vanity project for some of the old men that manage snowshoe but don’t ride. If this is what the organizers are spending money on, it makes it so much easier to be happy spending that week at the beach instead of spectating or volunteering. Who wants to...

Definitely a DQ if the UCI want to be consistent with their rulings, Bernard tried to argue this as he was DQ'd years ago for something similar, but the UCI Comm argues it wasn't intentional. Bernard gives his thoughts in my WynTV up later tonight.

Something that I think gets lost in the discussion is this: the majority of people who buy mountain bikes suck at riding, ride somewhere boring, or both. It's all cool if a 1280mm wheelbase and 64 head angle works for me, someone who used to be fast, but that same super niche geometry has trickled down across most companies' entire MTB range, and I've gotta imagine that sucks for most riders in most places. I have one mountain bike right now, and while I get around just fine, it's obviously waaaaaay too big for my local very-popular XC spot. Slow...

We had a proper day on track today. Can’t wait for Snowshoe 2021. America loaded up their vans en masse yesterday morning and made the trip. The noise in the key spectator zones was literally disorienting.
