11/19/2024 9:05am RE: The Radial kool-aid, a longtime Schwalbe athlete put out a concise breakdown of his first impressions on the Alberts. It seems to answer a lot of the questions that have been circulating around here.

11/15/2024 8:57am I’ve been running nothing but DH super soft Kryptotal FR / Xynotal and have started to question if the casing is too stiff for me during harder riding. Over 16psi and the ride quality noticeably diminishes. I’m thinking of trying out these new Schwalbe radials. Magic Mary gravity super soft / Albert gravity soft front and rear respectively. Hoping it would let me run at least 20psi with similar performance?

11/13/2024 9:45am I get away with fairly low pressures, particularly on my trail bike that sort of maxes out at about a 3' drop but still sees plenty of chunk. (I'm 182#s) My old AND current set up was a Cross King in the rear with a lightweight insert (broke a rim last year, even with the insert, but at 21 psi) is 23 psi. For the front tire I was mostly running 19 psi with the other tires I was testing, like the Purgatory T9 but when I tried that with the Albert it felt funny right away. A bit of...

10/1/2024 9:27am On the VALA, curious that it specs Schwalbe Radial tyres and no Maxxis unlike every other Santa Cruz stock build

8/15/2024 8:24am Maybe someone could make a thread specifically for tech rumors so we don't derail this suspension kinematic thread?

8/12/2024 4:25pm To add to this, there is a reason that MTB tires (other than XC) rarely make a appearance on 3rd party rolling test sites. Practically all utilize a rolling drum test, and unless we only care about rolling performance on the tarmac, the comparison of such results don't mean much. Quantifying rolling performance on varying levels of aggregate or soil...

8/12/2024 4:16pm One thing about rolling resistance off road, casing being able to flex and absorb a bump (rock/root/etc) can lower effective rolling resistance since it is not deflecting. Deflecting off of a bump takes energy away from moving forward, increasing effective rolling resistance. Mostly I agree with Nico in the post above, looks like a good front tire. I currently swap between a Magic Mary and a Tacky Chan depending on the seasons. MM is great in fall/ winter to punch through the leaves and pine needles on the trails, but as trails dry out in spring/summer I find the side...

8/12/2024 3:36pm Michelin DH34 Bike Park - Lasted 1.5 laps in the bike park. I was hoping to have a hard compound dh tire but for some reason they dont make the side wall as burly as their Wild Enduro or DH tire. Why IDK, would not suggest. Whats the best DH tire with more durable compounds? I got a new DHR2 DH Maxxterra but not sure how long it will last. A dual compound would be cool. I like the specy Cannibal but at $80 a pop I am not running them until the sales come back around on them. The...

7/31/2024 12:08pm and i'd say they can keep it as a race only, on the last MoiMoiTV video they're talking about how many tyres he's peeling through in days. the current ultrasoft is amazing in terms of grip and how long it last, not sure something softer that wears immediately is better for the public...

7/5/2024 9:42am Got to see the new Schwalbe Assegai/Kryptotal type tyre at Eurobike today on a random bike that it probably should not have been on. Knobs look bigger generally to me, though I could not check side by side with the Maxxis/Conti equivalent. Looks like it should be a good addition to the Schwalbe range.

7/4/2024 10:55am I try to buy used, takeoff, or NIB tires from the Pinkbike buy/sell page, half because of the cost savings and half because of my hippie desire to contribute less to the consumption of petroleum and new products. If someone's getting rid of it, might as well get some mileage out of it. To be clear, I am 100% not buying a tire with more than a few runs on it. Typical price for a new or lightly used DH Maxxgrip tire is $40-60. And yes, $110 for a super soft rear tire that will last three days at a...

6/18/2024 11:44am I quite like the Aggressor rear and DHF 3CT up front when I'm going for a fast rolling combo that can still go DH fast on my 125/140 Optic. I'm one of those people who likes the leaned-over grip of the DHF, YMMV. This is one of my favorite summer/dry setups, but I do tend to run a Tannus insert rear when running EXO+. Do to the slow, off-camber slabs I tend to ride, I prefer the DHF over the DHR up front. The DHR likes to slide sideways when going straight and braking hard on these slabs. Other than...

6/4/2024 4:49pm Have you tried the Super Gravity Casing? It is pretty tough, certainly enough for the majority of riders who aren't racing World Cup DH. 4 layers of 67 epi carcass, bead-to-bead puncture protection, and supportive layer halfway up the sidewall. As for durability in a tread pattern, it's hard to beat the Eddy Current Rear. Its pretty easy to imagine...

6/3/2024 3:29pm Ultra soft does handle damp or wet conditions well. Soft works well on the rear. An Ultra soft Magic Mary with the Tacky Chan side knobs (the new prototype spied at WCs appears similar to this) would be the perfect year round tire for me. As it is Magic Mary in Fall /Winter softer conditions, Tacky Chan for the Spring / Summer as trails get dry and hard.

6/3/2024 12:20pm Haha good catch. Tires don't typically make things wet (that is unless you get really excited about casing technology and rubber compounds).
