4/14/2025 9:39am Current setup: front - Hillbilly grid trail t9 27.5; Rear - Kryptotal Re enduro soft 26" This has been a very good pairing, but I'm contemplating changing the front for something more planted on hardpack this spring. I still want it to work as best as possible in the loose. The Schwalbe Albert has my attention at the moment, because it's the only 27.5 radial that comes in the trail casing. (Yes, I care about the extra ~150g on the gravity casing. I want to keep my mini mullet feeling agile!) My concern with the Albert is that there might...

3/27/2025 11:51am Beauty is in the (pink) eye of the beholder. I for one think it's sweet to have brands going their own way. There is enough teal colored bikes out there.

2/25/2025 3:23pm The Tacky Chan provides some of the best off-camper grip in Schwalbe's lineup thanks to the aggressive shoulders, the notable exception being a Dirty Dan with it's side claws but that tire is a different beast. Shredda Rear will probably give you the braking traction you are after, plus the side knobs are just as aggressive as a Tacky Chan...

2/19/2025 8:30am The guys at Onlymotion are close to selling their wireless electronics kit. Pretty amazing that they have managed to pack all this into such a small volume. Also, I truly appreciate that you can charge it without removing the dropper, in contrast to certain mtbr comments. As long as you utilize this conversion kit with any of your mechanical droppers that fit it, you just need to put the included USB-C into the frame once. 10min for 2000 actuations and no proprietary charger sounds good to me. Might be difficult to fit the right insertion on some frames with the...

2/10/2025 12:06pm The Radials are not slower in actual MTBing terrain, in fact they are quite fast as they just float over the chunder. Who cares how they sound on asphalt?

1/29/2025 8:36am The old tires aren't suddenly unrideable. I ride the old casings in the back because I don't need/want that much grip there. I also think the rolling resistance is lower but I'm not sure if that is true. Its just that the radials are extremely loud on asphalt.

1/20/2025 7:39am The radial Albert’s are the real deal. Mine are gravity super soft 2.6’s front and rear. Had my first race on them today and the grip combined with the damped feeling of the gravity casing added a whole new layer of confidence for me. The most surprising aspect though, the fact that they pedal and roll quite well. Much more efficient than i imagined. When does the radial line expand to the more trail oriented models? I’m convinced

1/14/2025 10:42am Sure will, I'm curious too. Probably get em mounted up this weekend. For the record, the Shredda did measure accurately. Someone on mtbr said thier 2.5 Albert measured 2.37 on a 30mm rim. So I'm thinking all are about .1 narrow. If the contact patch is bigger (wider) does it matter what it meaures??????

1/7/2025 1:56pm I haven't with the same tread pattern as a control (currently you can only do this with the Mary since the Albert and Shredda's are new tread patterns). Wouldn't be surprised if a site conducts this test soon. But going from a Tacky Chan Super Trail UltraSoft -> Albert Trail Pro Radial UltraSoft, i didn't notice a massive difference in...

1/7/2025 7:50am Most don't need a MM as a rear tire, however given your riding local, I think it would be appropriate if you want pure grip. I ran a trail casing, ultra soft combo of Mary/Chan on my enduro bike this summer and was extremely happy. Obviously an ultra soft tire in the rear won't last long but the step up in grip vs soft is worth it in my opinion.

1/7/2025 7:50am Eyeing up the radials from Schwalbe, what would be a good combo to run on a shorter travel trail bike, like the last gen Norco Optic? Would a pair of Alberts in Trail with Soft in the rear, Ultra Soft in the front be a decent combo or are there better options? When I was looking at the Shredda and the MM, both seem to have really tall knobs - where I ride we have more janky rocks and slabs, not much loam or mud for those knobs to penetrate...

1/7/2025 7:49am The new casings that come with a radial layup (TRAIL PRO and GRAVITY PRO) provides a noticeably more compliant and damped ride quality when compared to the "Super" Casings (Super Trail, Super Gravity). I've found rim strikes and burping to be far less prevalent on the radial casings (adding +3 psi more than i would on the Super casings).

12/23/2024 8:35am Some thoughts on the radial casings: -Weight: 147lbs -Front: 29, Radial Magic Mary, Ultra Soft, Trail -Rear: 27.5, Radial Albert, Soft, Gravity Have ridden the tires on about 10 rides... 1. Started at 26PSI and quickly brought it down to 21-22.5psi, front and rear (note that I have different casings front/rear) 2. I've pretty much only ridden in wet, 40-58deg F conditions. 3. Not overly impressed with Soft compound in terms of grip on wet roots (climbing, etc.) Felt like worn T9 compound I had on previously was better. Schwalbe doesn't offer 27.5 Radial tires in Ultra Soft yet. 4...

12/9/2024 10:29am Many XC world cup athletes have turned to the Wicked Will for when conditions gets slick. Since you are looking for traction on wet roots, you will definitely want a softer rubber compound up front. The secret menu item for such conditions is the 29x2.4 Wicked Will Super Race Addix Soft. It's the only combination that comes in the fast...

12/5/2024 7:24am Always appreciate these tests but it would really up the value if the comparison was more apples to apples (ex. Maxxis High Roller vs Continental Argotal vs Schwalbe Shredda).

12/3/2024 3:22pm That sounds weird because grid trail and exo+ are lighter and thinner than supertrail, radial trail or supergravity. I rode grid trail and supertrail back to back with similar pressures and the rim impacts with grid trail compared to supertrail sounded and felt way worse.

11/28/2024 11:30am Thanks for sharing your thorough experiences with the Albert! As you eluded to, it does sound like a Magic Mary GRAVITY PRO Radial would provide you the desired grip in loose conditions. That is where the Mary generally shines. That being said, Mary Radial on the front and Albert Radial on the rear has been a popular combo for many...

11/28/2024 11:21am Alright, here is my two cents on Schwalbe's radial casing and the Albert. Sorry for word-barfing so hard in a forum. So we tested the Albert at the end of summer before it launched as part of a gravity tire shootout that's dropping next week. I know, a bit of a delay. But we didn't have any information about the tire during the test, and **spoiler** it ended up being our least favorite. Part of this was due to the lack of support and damping from the casing. Part of it was due to the tread design struggling to bite...
