At first I thought the same it's too goofy to work thoughts, but watching it on the raw vid everyone riding one looked relaxed and composed but not slow compared to other riders.

Pick a chainring size and be a dick about it? Honestly who cares. Kind of reminds me of skiing, where if you don’t ski on 130 flex boots you’re a lil bish. I have a commute and regular guy job and live kinda far from trails. I don’t have as much free time as others to be an ascent monster. Let me enjoy my 30t ring. Don’t yuck my yum yo!!

Hmm. Do I get to decide when it’s a sustained steep or recovery is necessary? Cuz I spent like an hour yesterday desperately clicking my gravel bike’s shifter in search of an even lower gear. I’m old, been drinking too much beer and eating Trader Joe’s peanut butter cups, and now I gotta deal with the knowledge that I have suboptimal gearing? Eff it

From the perspective of a flat lander the track looks pretty cool to me, cut in it will be a whole different animal anyway. What are the odds Norton shows up with a 32 front wheel? It would suit his setup it seems, I wonder if the wheels are strong enough to risk it? Scott has a 32 front gambler...

True a 2x4 is actually a 1.5x3.5”, but we did pretty much invent dimensional lumber, (lumber was basically custom milled to whatever the builder wanted up till then) which resulted in affordable housing…..We also have made several attempts at switching to the metric system starting with the Metric act of 1866, The Mendenhall order of 1893, Metric Cinversion act of 1975, and finally George W Executive Order 12770 in 1991 ordering federal agencies to use the metric system.

There are already those issues with the wired in version of AXS and Di2 derailleurs on ebikes, it's actually obnoxious to work on them because of it. An interesting rhetorical question about CVTs and MGUs coming into this space is when do these "bicycles" stop being "bicycles"? Automatic shifting and the removal of manual control seem to me like the point where bicycles are no longer bicycles. We as a community and as an industry should probably draw those lines before we get too much further from where we are now. I'll stop my pseudo-philosophical ramblings here

You think if internal combustion motors were a new invention now they would be built to be disposable? Why are electronics so disposable, but things like IC motors are not? I have to imagine the material and engineering cost is far lower on electronic motors compared to IC motors right? I still don't know where I stand on e-bikes fully. On the surface the value proposition seems obvious, but once you start really thinking about them compared to normal bikes it starts to get tricky. They are just so much more complicated than a normal bike, kinda ruins the lighthearted...

I don't want to come off as angry or pretentious, but I find what's going on with Avinox and the Spesh "class 2" emtb disgusting. I'm curious how the people at traditional bike companies feel about what they're helping proliferate into our world for all of the people who created and maintain the trails (mostly volunteers like myself) to contend with. How conflicted are they? Between the general financial malaise in the industry, 32" wheels nobody truly seems excited about, and the unprincipled embrace of avivox/DJI/amflow, what is general morale like? Conversely, and assuming everyone there isn't also yelling at...

My 2c - Clip E bikes, drop UCI sanctioning, take it to more interesting locations like the golden era & make the coverage part race review part destination / travel show. This would also allow you to pull tourism money from local governments in return for running an event in their area. Having some events integrated with Crankworx also seemed like a good formula for pulling interest and unique talent to the events at least for a time, as was the Trophy Des Nations - would be good to see those two things back in the mix.

I’ve said it a couple times so apologies if it’s a broken record . The problem for me isn’t 150nm, or 1500watts. It’s 800% assist . Humans fundamentally make different choices when things are easy vs. hard . I can maybe go 20mph uphill on a trail on my meat bike , but only for an instant, then I’m gassed . So I never do that . When there’s suddenly no disincentive (it being exhausting) the total time spent of people going 20mph on blind single track is going to be much higher, thus the probability of isssue increases. At...

in scandal mag, jim bland, luca's mechanic, thinks 32" front wheels are coming (in what i would assume is DH since he's a DH mechanic). seems like it wouldn't be hard for any of the inverted brands to make a 32" fork for this upcoming season (assuming tires are available, which i bet they are). he also says cone valves in forks, so maybe some other hint development? #nonEbikeRumors

The motor brands are all much larger and much better funded than the bike brands. So to some degree the ebike market is becoming an emotor market. Arguably the bike brands are riding that wave.

Curmudgeon moment incoming, my apologies: This is exactly the reason I don't give a shit about motocross or cars or a million other things. I 100% don't give a shit about numbers. "Oh, but this one can do 150nm of power!" Cool. I don't care. I don't ride a bike looking for the easiest way to do anything. Does it do 150nm of making my will to live stronger? Will it do a 30-second boost mode of shutting my brain off? Is it 1300W of power that'll die in a year and completely brick the bike for two months while...

Another vote for work pants Red Cap, Dickies whatever they just work and they last. I'll roll mine up to just below the knee if a ride starts cold and then gets warmer. I've also used stretchy jeans or pants from Levi's and Lee's and they felt great but didn't last as long. Running knee pads under either options is...
