The other tricky thing with tires is there’s always the question of what pressure and how stiff of a tire do you need. If you just needed to crush 12 mm tall chatter then low pressure, flexible tire, and super heavy wheel would be very smooth. But then it falls apart as you hit anything bigger. I know I certainly end up somewhere in the middle where it’s a little chattery on the really high frequency stuff but then I’ll pinch the sidewall hitting something taller. Not something that can be won on all fronts. The lack of sidewall height...

Your suspension is doing work on the mass of you and the unsprung mass. Viewing it as doing work to slow down the upward motion of the wheel cuts out the majority of the picture. From a suspension performance standpoint, the argument for lower unsprung mass is the wheel can get returned to the ground quicker after it goes over an obstacle that causes it to lose contact. That is a direct correlation to increased traction. I think rebound is one of the most overlooked things across many industries, but what I was referring to initially was just the compression...

Shimano has been on the “me too” cycle with mountain bike products for at least the last 10 years. It’s all just been reactions to what SRAM and others have been doing. Nominating them for any kind of award is just a hard no in my opinion.

Don't worry everyone: I already had a meeting planned with @sspomer this afternoon, so I'll be sure to tell him on all of your behalf what a terrible person he is and how we're not mad, just disappointed.

It’s cool to see a smaller company come out with stuff, but I do think it was hilarious that this needed to be crowd funded. That leaves me a little bit worried that if you buy a wheel set like this does tenant actually have the money available if these things break

In honor of the 1000th page, we should vote on the best meme of 2025: 👍🏻 for “Crab” 👎🏻 for “6-7” edit: Carcinization is the antithesis of innovation. Maybe we should keep crab talk on the crab talk forum and keep this thread focused on MTB tech rumors and/or innovation.

re: bearings In my 30 years of riding mountain bikes, I've owned 40+ full suspension bikes, and not once did I ever consider bearing replacement ease/difficulty when considering a frame. I know we're a bunch of nerds on here, but do some of you actually consider that when looking at a bike?

I don’t know if you guys have ever owned a banshee but they’re pretty poor quality frames unfortunately. I had some of my closest friends ride them and they kept breaking chain stays, hardware kept coming loose and snapping pivots. Warranty was good, but it happened so many times that they had gotten rid of them for something else. seems...

Is replacing 8 more bearings when you already have your linkage blown apart really that big of a deal? I don’t ride a crazy amount, but I do ride a good amount, and I do not replace my bearings more than every other year. Most of the time they are still fine. Unless you’re in the top 0.1% of riders I don’t see any reason why you should be replacing bearings more than once a year. So maybe 8 more bearings to change might take another 2 hours if you’re severely bad at using tools. I spend more than 2...

Rode with Brian ages ago in Whistler. Certified shredder. But since this is tech rumors, via ride companion episode with Gee, sounds like Atherton could be working on an eeb.

They have poor attitudes that everything that isn’t this incredibly niche aftermarket brand that only exist in this one country are garbage is insane. Sorry I like to be able to pick my front wheel up.

Guys a straight clown and like Paul Aston and others with mediocre skill levels use all these gimmick to try to get them to ride faster but somehow never get any better
