Not to disrupt the 32" hub spacing convo but - I'm linking up with Specialized next week to ride/film a video on the new Demo 11. I want to focus this video more on getting everyone's questions answered about the bike since we will do a proper test of the bike later this summer during our DH Test Sessions. So if you have anything you want explained or answered, drop a comment here - https://www.vitalmtb.com/forums/hub/specialized-demo-11-what-do-you-wan…

Speaking of pinkbike, it's been down all morning ON THE SAME morning as the Department of War starts releasing classified docs on aliens?? Coincidence??

So, going to ask this question fully understanding the debates and tech here... So everyone is saying 32" will NEED new/wider hub spacing, especially for DH. WHY? Most companies are designing asymetric rims. spoke tensions are even. now, on top of that, commencal is running 32h rear 28h front. so going down in spoke count. AND most teams are running LESS spoke tension to get better traction (and in turn INCREASE wheel flex). So.... if you take that into account, I see no need to run wider flanges on a 32h asymmetric rim at full tension. Also... most of us...

The only 32" Dissector model that Maxxis offers to the public right now is an Exo+ Maxxterra tire. It's the same tire Matt Beer was riding at Cypress when he did the back to back 32"/29" test for the other site. If that's the tire Neko's riding at Rock Creek, I'm actually more impressed with his ability to nurse an EXO+ casing through Mountain Creek than I'm worried about slightly "the wrong" tread or compound. I'm certain a 32" front tire takes a lot less beating than a 27.5" rear tire, but still, not exactly the ideal tire setup. If...

I know the crew in this particular forum thread is probably the most up to speed of any group of MTB-addicted individuals on the internet, but in case you want a 5-minute recap of the impressive amount of new gear that dropped in the last month, the latest Gear Show episode is for you: https://www.vitalmtb.com/videos/member/biggest-news-issue-year-vital-mt….

Yes, the vibe at Sea Otter was way, way more upbeat than the last three. Why? Marketing folks had new stuff to talk about, salespeople had the latest hype to sell (at full price), and product managers/engineers had new projects in the works. And all of these people still had jobs after years of downsizing, right-sizing, streamlining, strategic leveraging, and synergizing. So, yeah, people felt relief, the weather was good, and (for better or worse) everyone has become desensitized to global turmoil, macroeconomic uncertainty, and the daily onslaught of ridiculous political news. Mind you, that was not intended to be...

Any thoughts on creating a new thread with to sole focus being DJI/Avinox/Amflow + Future (which can be technology and business)? I know a number of you subscribe to this looking for a broader range of things to be talked about. I'm happy to start one if you guys want.

I'm fascinated, and terrified in some sense, by how this monster motor power thing will play out. At this point, DJI/Avinox can just go full force into an MGU and take Shimano and SRAM out at the knees. Also, do American brains get tripped up on the watts to horsepower conversion? Would people care more if we told them that Avinox has 2HP on tap with normal (187 watts/0.25HP) effort? Will they only do the math when an M2S bike is coming at them uphill at 20 mph. If I may, let's get this thread back to some troubling financial...

So we can self shuttle in the Summer and "heli ski" in the Winter? 600kg/4=150kg. Myself plus harness, ropes, avi gear, board and winter layers aren't even close to 1 drone's weight limit. You don't even have to come out of your bindings. I also love the mental image of people seated on their bikes, clipped in even, flying to the top of a DH run. Mr Jeff Brines, your CAST (amazing product btw) bindings are going to be obsolete.... Wait, now are the kite skiers and surfers going to complain about e-assisted kite skiers accumulating more hang time on...

DJI just announced the FC200, a transport drone that can lift 600kg when working in tandem (4 drones). https://x.com/XH_Lee23/status/2047532188615454987?s=20 I'm posting this because it shows how close to the edge DJI is willing to go. From what I know, this product doesn't come close to passing FAA regs, but they don't care since it's a China-only product for (at least) the near future. As others have pointed out, culturally it's probably a good bet that DJI doesn't think about regulations the same way a company like Bosch might.

Very relevant to this discussion, I just saw on Instagram that there are EIGHT different e-bike regulation bills being debated in the California state legislature right now. Eight!

Surron had a prominent presence at Sea Otter, and a number of kids were riding these e-motos (along with pit bikes) throughout the expo in ways that were disruptive and inconsiderate. I’m still developing my perspective on high-powered eMTBs (which I consider a separate thing), but it’s hard to ignore how often these machines seem to encourage poor behavior — or at least attract it. I often hear the argument that it’s better for kids to be outside on bikes (of any sort) than indoors glued to their phones. In principle, I agree. But increasingly, it feels as though the...

@jeff.brines, heres a bit of feedback/ encouragement. I believe the story on the clash of an escalating e-bike power war, the rise of the e-moto, the battle for land access, and how governments might seek to regulate it all has the potential to reach well beyond the our small niche here and into the broader media landscape. I believe you're the perfect person to tell the story. I think the topic influences everyone. I believe it's a story that extends well beyond the interest of mountain bikers and would engage a large swath of the thinking public. Particularly the topic...

I got ~30 minutes each with Avinox and Bosch and am still figuring out what to do with the content (podcast or writing). Unsurprisingly, Bosch is a bit "disappointed" (I'm paraphrasing) in the direction Avinox is pushing the industry. They leaned heavily into trail access and stewardship, and suggested the current crop of high-output motors doesn't jive with the effort they've put into balancing stakeholders and leading the powertrain side responsibly. For fun, I looked back to see if Bosch has ever pushed power or torque limits on their own accord, and from what I can tell the answer is...
