5/24/2026 9:11pm That doesn't surprise me at all. I coach our high school bike team, and one of the first things I do is try to get suspension set up within an acceptable range. I'd say one of the other big issues (outside rebound) I see is pressure, so a shock pump and calipers prove quite handy. And these are kids who are stoked on riding and probably have more knowledge than the average consumer. I also see people rocking what looks like 50% sag out on the trail, bobbing about, pedals almost hitting the ground, and it takes a lot of...

5/24/2026 9:10pm Uh, that's most bike buyers. The number of people that I've sold bikes to who don't care/know what the knobs do is... the majority. We do our best to educate, but I could see their eyes glaze over in the first 10 seconds. The number of customers who care about how suspension works is less than 5% in my experience.

5/20/2026 8:37pm I think this might be more of a US/Canada-centric view. The Specialized Turbo Levo line is over 10 years old. The Canyon Spectral:ON line is over 8 years old. Those are just two examples of model lineage/aging, but they were released to capitalise on an already-growing market. In Europe, eBikes are huge, and they totally dwarf mountain bike sales. This isn't a recent phenomenon - it's been the case for a while now. All the reports from shops are that they don't really sell many/any mountain bikes over the £/€3,000ish mark - once consumers get to that price point, they...

5/19/2026 8:31pm You can run a coil on any leverage rate and never have to worry about bottoming out if you're willing to run a stiff enough spring. Pop a cool 700 or 800 pounder on that Tallboy 6 and I bet bottom outs won't be a problem.

5/18/2026 8:35pm Today I looked for some replacement floor mats for my Japanese car and found one manufacturer that puts little Imperial Japanese flags on them. I wondered what they do if you own a Volkswagen.

5/18/2026 8:33pm Stop talking about Ford, with enough mentions the Ford sales team will find this thread and think we want more of the abominations. https://ford-bikes.com/collections/frontpage?srsltid=AfmBOopli28vcdxT2i…

5/18/2026 8:32pm Damn dude! I just looked this up and at first glance Ford was the homie for doing something other than maximizing shareholder profits but then I read the next paragraph of the Wikipedia and he was doing that, in part, to squeeze out the dodge bros from using their fordbux to make their competitor brand, so that seem like he’d be a god to the Brinance types oh so smart (usually psychopathic) but then I got very bored and realized that there are no winners in that one and Chevrolets have always been cooler than Fords and/or Dodges. My dad...

5/18/2026 8:31pm Take it easy buddy. I’m not trying to derail the entire conversation but also think it’s allowed to have an aside now and again. There’s plenty of off topic quips that go on in this thread.

5/18/2026 8:29pm I don't buy Ford because of the Michigan Supreme Court's decision in the 1919 case Dodge v. Ford Motor Company.

5/14/2026 11:12pm Escape collective has just released the first (of several) follow up podcasts on the state of the industry. I've only just started the first but if it's like the previous set they'll be worth a listen.

5/14/2026 11:09pm Its a super-duper longshot, but I have watched this play out a few times now. All depends on a few (huge) things... 1) Who here sold a tech company/has generational wealth/a mega rich uncle/dad who runs a hedge fund and is bored? We'd need 7 figures to buy the thing out of receivership. 2) What is the price? If the price is right, it works. If its not, its all for nothing. 3) "Who's coming with me?" The timing is not in our favor, and I can't stress how important point number 1 is. Most people aren't interested in tying...

5/14/2026 11:09pm Anyone with real access to capital want to make a run at buying all the inventory / assets out of receivership and rebooting Knolly? I'm semi serious.

5/14/2026 11:08pm Feels like that's the bitter end, right? Administration/receivership/bankruptcy is one thing, but it can lead to restructuring. Selling off all the physical assets via auction is another thing entirely. Although I suppose YT went through the auction process and they're back again.

5/14/2026 10:54pm Don't feel bad. Life is political. Politics isn't some small aspect of existence that can be sequestered into a couple days just before elections. It is literally everywhere all the time having huge impacts on people's lives. Bike materials are political. Trail access is political. The ability to afford a bike - and therefore the folding or flourishing of the mountain bike industry - is political. The existence of rural hospitals is political. Ebike motors are political. The efforts to reduce, reuse, and recycle plastics is political. Is there any sort of innovation in that lane brands should be looking...

5/14/2026 10:52pm I've got that same feeling with my Reeb SST, It's gonna stay with me a for a very long time. I'll probably need to get repainted a few times in it's lifetime. But, my 5yo has already said that he wants it when he gets older haha.

5/14/2026 10:52pm This is one of the reasons I ponied up the money to have a custom steel hardtail made a few years ago. I’m not getting invited to Greta Thunberg’s sailboat or anything, but I liked the idea of having at least one bike that I will keep forever.
