4/17/2024 8:09am Spoiler alert: Levo sl: Most like a normal bike, rides just like stumpy Evo (in a good way) but with better ride quality. Most fun and yet still capable. Very well integrated but the motor and battery are too weak and concerns that in the future this will be held back relative to next gen bikes due to feeble motor. Trek fuel exe: Best integrated, but 2nd weakest output. More for adventure rides than DH. SC heckler: 2nd most fun but the most capable descender by a long way. Favourite bike, just let down by finishing gear on Fazua (switches...

4/10/2024 3:48pm Insightful interview... Interesting to see Fox lean into improved damping control vs. air spring improvements. Seems like they're taking a page from EXT/Ohlins in managing suspension control through proper damping. Was thinking about swapping my Fox 36 for a RXF 36, but I may just try giving the new damper a try first.

4/4/2024 4:07pm I have the V11s and Deftraps Deftraps have more outright grip while the V11s feel better underfoot for all day pedaling. Can't go wrong with either.

3/27/2024 2:50pm Robert from The Loam Wolf here. I was the one who broke the Scalpel, and I’m not surprised I did - overshot the landing of a large jump for an XC bike, landing in the pocket between the landing and the flat ground after it. Huge bottom out. I corrected Kaz at Pinkbike’s quote - he had flatteringly guessed me to be 190lbs, whereas I am 220lbs. Nothing fishy. I wholeheartedly believe the Scalpel is fit for purpose and that it was my fault! Was having far too much fun and got carried away.

Historically, Vital doesn't do cross country. We dabble here or there, but our passion is gravity-fueled mountain biking. When Specialized reached out at the end of last year about a new mountain bike on the horizon, I assumed it was for the new Stumpjumper (we all know it's coming soon). But lo and behold, it was for the Epic. Having always kept my knowledge of the XC world at arm's length, I knew the Epic had helped steer the evolution of XC racing, that it had a rear shock with a mind of its own, and that there was a...

3/12/2024 9:05am Here are links to new Epics and XC Flight Attendant: https://www.vitalmtb.com/product/guide/bikes/specialized/epic-evo-48446… https://www.vitalmtb.com/news/press-release/rockshoxs-xc-flight-attenda… Disclaimer: I grew up racing downhill, and like most folks on Vital, I prefer gravity-focused bikes/riding. I pedal, but usually as a means to access descents, and I'm typically on 140mm+ bikes. Showing up at an XC press camp with flat pedals and a trail helmet was pretty comical. I figured I'd like the EVO more since I enjoy pushing bikes on descents. But turns out, I really underestimated what XC bikes are capable of, as the Epic blew my doors off. It was fun to check out...

3/8/2024 9:50am Just got back from a day at Dyfi. This is the production-ready model, two were being tested by journalists in preparation for the official launch on the 12th. In person it’s absolutely striking and looks like nothing else out there. If the frame only price is reasonable then I’ve never been more tempted by a bike. (If anyone from Atherton bikes wants me to remove the photo I’m happy to, but as it’s been seen by upwards of 100 people today I’m sure it’s fine).

2/29/2024 10:29am I love their content and it heavily influenced me to try something new! I'm working on buying my first cinema camera as we speak because of these guys and the guys from the Fox Dialed series... Been slowly buying parts of my kit since last year and am about to pull the trigger on a body this week. Was a photographer at a bike retailer then randomly got tossed into a video role filming product stuff and learning as I go. I very quickly became addicted and now I want to take a risk and film stuff on my free...

2/8/2024 4:38pm Agreed. As much as I love my gen 1 Privateer 141, I'm pretty keen on replacing the frame with a gen 2 Privateer frame or the RAAW v3. I think for mellower trail riding with less gradient, short travel 29'er makes a lot of sense but I'm confident all my future long travel bikes will be a mullet going forward.

2/8/2024 4:34pm And Privateer will be taking preorders soon for their updated frames. I love that they and Raaw have mullet compatibility built in. I'd be grabbing a new 141 or 161 frame if I hadn't just purchased a Lithium, which I plan to mullet this spring as an experiment. I'll be moving from a 2.35ish rear to 2.5 to help offset the bb drop just a little. Bottom bracket starting point is ~350mm so hopefully I can keep it almost reasonable at around ~340mm. Already running 165 cranks but don't want to go shorter. I recently demoed a Bronson MX and...

2/8/2024 3:55pm I've been on my Privateer 141 for over 2000 miles and about 500 of those in a mullet set-up using a Cascade Components mullet eyelet with a Fox DXH2. I am really enjoying the mullet set-up, especially on steeper trails (25-35% grade).

12/31/2023 8:37am Tarmo Ryynänen, the people’s champ of Pinkbike Academy, getting a team spot for 2024 enduro? LBS has been sponsoring him along with other brands. He did quite well this season, spent the 2023 winter off season as conscript with Onni Rainio in the ”athlete school” of Finnish military. Will be interesting to see where he lands and what will achieve with a proper off season. https://www.instagram.com/p/C1g9iz-sQza/?igsh=aGFzZXI0d2NzbGo3
