Curious if you can share how you decide to retire a rim, and how different that might be for the rider's home practice bike vs. their race bike. How bad does a rim (or wheel) have to get before it's replaced? There's a lot of talk about riders "breaking" wheels but I'm not sure if that means cracking/splitting rims, snapping spokes, denting/flat-spotting aluminum rims, or any of the above. I'm sure it varies from team to team but would appreciate your perspective.

Some trivia, FWIW: In Men's Elite, Bruni is the only rider to get points in Q1 in every World Cup race so far. (Goldstone got 0 points twice.) In Women's Elite, 4 riders have earned Q1 points in every race: Höll, Hemstreet, Seagrave, Hoffmann. Goldstone (twice) and Bruni (once) are the only Elite riders - male or female - to finish 1st in Q1 and go on to win in the finals this year.

I don't really buy the idea that Gwin was “impeded.” He started where he started just like everyone else. That’s racing. We dropped protected status from World Cups for a reason, and I don’t think it makes sense to bring it in here either. Seeding matters. The whole race weekend matters. If you mess it up, you deal with the consequences like anyone else be it riding through dust, having a weather affected run, whatever.
