Sure, people like to root for the underdog, for the kid who came from nothing (or worse than nothing) and overcame all that. And there's a lot to be said about people who just don't excel at school but are otherwise intelligent, hard-working, caring, or any other positive character trait you want. We like those stories because they are rare. A race team is a business, and that means team managers are looking for people who have a high chance of meeting their goals. Having a high GPA (which is one of the few ways someone this age can show...

Sam Hill said... SRAM didn’t even return an email or phone call when he was try to put a bike together most recently. Seems pretty disrespectful to athletes (and champs) that helped push your products for many years. It’s one thing to not resign a rider. It’s another to just ghost them like they never existed!

There isn't going to be significant nonindustry sponsorship until there's enough viewership to create economic value for those sponsors. In a lot of ways, professional mountain bike racing is just a really large, well-organized office pool within the bike industry. A single team cannot change that. But an "inside look" is something the team has control over and can try to monetize. Not really any different than what Moir and others are doing on YouTube - just a slightly different compensation model. I'm not saying it's going to work or that it's the best answer, but I'll always applaud an...

Hopefully you've all been being careful when performing maintenance on your brakes, but a couple new studies just dropped reinforcing that inhaling brake dust is bad, mmmkay. No types of dust were good for you, but interestingly one study showed that metallics were less damaging than organics when exposing lung tissue to dust. Either way, I'd encourage everyone to clean their stuff using a wet method to avoid dust generation, and ideally catch the majority of the liquid in a garbage can for proper disposal, because if you just let it dry on the floor of your workshop it can...

“Im sorry did you say niche? Im (big bike company name here) and I see this as a perfect opportunity to convince you, that you need 32” wheels or you suck at riding. Im going to milk this cow till its dead. You say it works best for 6’ 5” tall people? Im sorry but, wrong, it is the next best thing for 5’ 6” tall people. Tell me otherwise and our lawyers will be at your doorstep with a bat. Keep the rubber side down or some shit.” - Scott Bikes probably.

Ice Cold take: I'd rather see a young gun or privateer committed to MTB and navigating the UCI points grind get a WC slot. If he has the speed and earns his way in then that's great but I'm not going to support undermining deserving riders with wildcard entries and such.

The warranty is lifetime of the product for the original owner. The problem I have with this is how is the lifetime of the product defined? One could argue that it is the fatigue life of the material for normal use in which case it completely depends on what criteria Pivot design the bikes to. Personally, I find lifetime warranties for the original owner a bit of a marketing gimmick and would much rather have a fixed 5-10 year, transferable warranty so it's completely clear and the next owner also has some cover.

How does this " C Paddock: UCI MTB Teams, National Federations and open to any bookings, managed by each LOC" not mean privateer pits?

I think a lot of the hate on the WB coverage is because of the increased expenses. Team fees more than quadrupled, race coverage is now locked behind a paywall (that gets almost 300% more expensive to watch this year), and promise from WB of improved coverage. WB hasn't delivered on any of the promised improved coverage and much of the available coverage has been poor (extremely wide drone shots that barely show the rider, shots that cut out the rider's legs and the bike, cutting away from a race run to show a team manager) poor commentary, and just...
