3/28/2024 2:34pm Wow. This thread is fun. Few thoughts I feel compelled to share. 1) I personally am not anti-union. I am however suggesting its important to know "what value you bring to the table" (individually or as a group). Any group of people can unionize, it doesn't mean there is underlying value that will result in pay increases (or pay at all). 2) Wu-Tang said it best. CREAM. This doesn't just go for the riders, but the promoters and anyone trying to get paid off of this sport. Unfortunately, the (free) "cash (flow) pie" is highly unlikely to be big enough...

3/28/2024 2:28pm What a depressing set of comments today. Biking is a hobby, people can enjoy it as they wish. Get over yourselves and let people be happy. Complaints about other peoples opinions are not tech rumors.

3/28/2024 8:00am Robert from The Loam Wolf here. I was the one who broke the Scalpel, and I’m not surprised I did - overshot the landing of a large jump for an XC bike, landing in the pocket between the landing and the flat ground after it. Huge bottom out. I corrected Kaz at Pinkbike’s quote - he had flatteringly guessed me to be 190lbs, whereas I am 220lbs. Nothing fishy. I wholeheartedly believe the Scalpel is fit for purpose and that it was my fault! Was having far too much fun and got carried away.

3/27/2024 6:46am I can feel the teenage angst bleeding through here, so I know I'm not going to change your mind. For anyone who is intellectually curious around the subject and how wrong this person is, here is an easy example to follow. The TL;DR is supply and demand underpins how "markets work". Not name calling and employees banding together (ironically what you just described has more Marxist tones, which is fine). Anyway - my example for anyone who cares... At the pointy end of the spear in the live performance space, its pretty widely acknowledged the best in the world right...

3/21/2024 12:07am For the same design and same loading, stress is the same for the two materials assuming no deflection. Modulus of elasticity is the same for all intents and purposes so when you consider deflection as well it’s still pretty much the same. S-N curve is the quick and easy way to visualize fatigue. For the same stress, 7075 can handle significantly more cycles. This graph is something I found really quick so no idea how accurate it is, but conveys the point. Traced lines for stress that would cause failure in 10^4 cycles in 6061. Would require about 10^5.6 cycles...

3/16/2024 12:47pm I'm not sure an Mtb forum is really the best venue to argue about rape conviction rates to be honest.

3/16/2024 12:46pm That's not really backed up by the prosecution/conviction statistics at all. e.g.: "According to figures from the French Ministry of Gender Equality, every year in France, 94,000 women report being victims of rape or attempted rape. But in 2021, barely 1 percent of the reported assaults resulted in a conviction." In the UK it's still extremely hard to get a conviction for rape. I know someone who was drugged then raped, and despite a lot of evidence there was no conviction. I can imagine in somewhere like France it would be even harder just with what the prevailing attitude towards...

3/15/2024 12:29am On the Shimano not ramping up thing: Very few brands and people in the bike world are manufacturers/have experience working in manufacturing. I don't think many decision makers from the brands wanting Shimano to ramp up understand the difficulty of increasing production volume outside of very few instances. There's the large time and cost investment of hiring, training, and supervising new people to operate existing machinery on a new overnight, or weekend, shift in a factory environment where you can die if you're not aware enough of your surroundings. Once you maximize the operating time of your existing machinery and...

3/14/2024 12:36am death gripping Will kill your hands waaaay faster than brakes - having to declaw is often poor Technique with death grip and bumps. DM & A-line is often death gripping... especially through the braking bumps. Mavens arnt the issue. I did 3 days recently at skyline QT with Maven SLV's 200mm rs2 rotors on a 180mm bike - and as someone who suffers from clawing, I infact had less with the mavens as you can brake later and for shorter time. To reference Dale stones vid, Stop dragging your brakes.

3/13/2024 10:53pm I’m not sure I see a downside to progression in the mid 30% range other than small volume air shocks not being good and some people not being able or use full travel. Some of the most well received links we make are around 35%. To date my fastest lap time on predator is on a bike that’s 36%. The thing I see giving people a hard time as of late is anti rise. There is still a very wide range between different bikes here. Sometimes I get the feeling that people perceive no downside to super low anti rise...

3/13/2024 10:49pm Hear what you're saying but I respectfully disagree that the widespread adoption of public kinematic graphs has been a net negative impact on MTB or even on brands. Yes, there are tons of people who suffer from confirmation bias while bike shopping or bike testing. Most people, in fact. But I think public kinematic graphs have helped make bike design better. Suspension designs are converging in a big way in the last five or so years, corresponding to the same timeframe when graphs have become widespread in product launches. We're mostly in agreement that wild curves in a kinematic graph...

3/3/2024 10:21pm I don't know the person in question, but I can tell you that after 26 years of turning wrenches for a living that neither being an engineer or a good (even great) rider absolutely DOES NOT mean that you know how to work on bikes.

2/22/2024 2:34am Nigel Page just put a goodbye and thanks post on Instagram. I find this super sad, as he is one class act as a human being. I read this as in ”hopes were still on until the last moment”. I can't wish him and the team anything else but the best. I want to add one more thing here: I met Pagey 22 years ago at the Worlds. He was injured and watched the races from the side and somehow I ended up talking to him. Being the kid in love with racing that I was and still am, I...
