9/24/2024 10:21pm Go look at inflation, high end bikes have always been expensive. In 2004, an SWorks Enduro was $4800. (Around $8500 today). In 2009, an SWorks Epic was $8800. (Approximately $13,000 today) I don’t understand why everyone suddenly thinks the sky is falling. Next everyone will be complaining that $250,000 for a Huraćan is insane because a Countach used to be $100,000. It’s not like you were going to buy one anyway.

9/23/2024 11:29pm I did a test this weekend with and without countershox on the bike. Nothing else was changed besides one on the fork and one on the seattube. The feeling in my hands was night and day more comfortable with Countershox. I was running data sensors on the bike for suspension, axles, bb and headtube of frame. This graph is a snippet showing the front axle movement compared to handlebar movement in vertical direction. Red is bars and Yellow is axle. You can see the bottom graph between big hits the bars are moving vertically much less. The peaks of the...

9/23/2024 11:27pm Even after watching that brief "how it works" video five times, I still have no idea how it works. Probably going to need to see it taken apart before I get it. I'm super excited to test it. My first stop is at Sun Peaks this weekend, trying to keep up with my friends on their DH bikes with my Megatower, AKA perfect test conditions. Sounds like Jason and Spomer both felt the magic in their time on the hub. I'm curious about pedaling feel and engagement, especially because I don't get how it works. Is it a consistent feel...

9/23/2024 11:22pm There's a very big difference between taking inspiration from the principles of someone else's design and using measurement/inspection equipment and generating geometry directly from the incumbents product. It appears the latter has happened here if you're able to buy Lewis lever blades and fit them to trickstuff lever bodies. You could argue that it was naïve of trick stuff to...

9/22/2024 11:33pm On the note of disengaging hubs and pedal kick, so long as whatever drive mechanism you have can automatically engage when you pedal forwards, it's impossible to prevent it from causing pedal kick. The drive mechanism, whether it be hub or BB based, can't differentiate between the chain getting pulled on due to you pedaling and the chain getting pulled on from the suspension compressing. Riding backwards is a little different in that you can use the fact that the hub is rotating backwards relative to the axle to disengage the hub.

9/22/2024 11:24pm I usually pour some fluid into a small dish, take the plunger out and wet it in the fluid before pulling fluid into it. When you're pulling fluid in, as long as you get the fitting below the surface you shouldn't be introducing any additional air. Degassing thoroughly after is still the bane of my existence but I'm certain it...

9/12/2024 11:01pm Thanks, I didn't pay attention to these details. I haven't had any contact to Tahnee or Tony or FMD personally, but I always admired her story and how their family supported the racing. It is quite something. On the other hand, I have met Rach more than once and I confirm what you say, and her brothers more than that and they must be some of the nicest people on the circuit, regardless of what PB commentators think of Gee's facial expressions. I actually vividly remember right now how I was in Livigno exactly 20 years ago, looking for a...

9/9/2024 10:19pm Another great race well deserved wins all round. WBD decision to show Tahnee's reactions during Finn's run showed a real lack of class. Whether they are dating or not has no relevance, it's not a soap opera. They weren't interested in Gaetan's reaction when Myriam was on a winning run. Scraping the barrel, gossip magazine shit.

9/5/2024 11:33pm (preface this by saying superb work on the video, love seeing some actual applied science being done!) In the podcast Dak suggested that TMDs were primarily being mounted to frames to eliminate higher frequency vibrations to aid in rider comfort - and I don't think this is meant in a trivial sense, it's genuinely something that can help the rider...

9/5/2024 11:09pm So it took me way to long to stitch these together and export it properly, but I did this test with the tyre at 18psi and 26psi, the 18psi gave the best result. Using parts on hand like some springs around 11.8 N/mm, a 250g mass and a 600g(250+350) mass. (*edit using the 2 opposing springs halves the rate so more like 6 N/mm) The wheel alone is about 1800g so total system about 2.4kg Tyre rates are roughly 35N/mm @ 18psi and 44N/mm at 26psi BUT they are slightly progressive in the first few mm plus I trimmed the...

9/5/2024 12:00pm Interestingly on Wyntv he said he thought he had a flat for the first 30 seconds and took it easy in case he rolled the tyre off the rim, then realised it was fine and dropped the hammer. Horrible "what if" for him considering how tight the results were.

8/31/2024 11:26pm I'm with the comments, if only a photographer or two could go around the pits doing 30s interviews, then they could play them over their photos in some kind of slideshow. If they have nice photos but no audio, then just play the same muzak track for about 15 years. I can't believe no one has tried this before.

8/25/2024 10:38am The constant whinging that tech rumours is getting derailed is kind of annoying and derailing in itself. In my opinion its OK to discuss the tech rumour or current happenings for at least a page or two, and then they generally dissipate or move to other threads. If a legitimate large rumour or release happens it naturally takes over the thread anyway, they're discussing damping and leverage because there isn't a lot happening right now. Plus, Primoz, Teamrobot and Cascade make up some of the best and most knowledge members and are creating a valid discussion. For better or worse...
