I bought my dreadnought for exactly the same reason. Having not owned a downhill bike since 2017, I was curious to see if a dreadnought with a cascade link and a 190mm boxxer could achieve something similar. The answer is a resounding "yes". Sure, there will still be instances where there's no replacement for displacement but I think you'd have to be pushing extremely hard or sending it massive to find them. I was shocked at how much difference an extra 20mm up front made over a 170mm sc fork, the thing just eggs you on to charge a bit...

I've gone back and forth between owning a dedicated DH bike and long travel FR bikes over the years. I've netted out that I prefer just having a full DH bike in the quiver at all times; they just erase things in a way the shorter travel can't - especially over a multi-day bike park trip. However, when the Shore came out it seemed like it was the perfect solution for what I wanted, essentially a full DH bike with a pedal-able seat tube angle, so I picked one up and it's been awesome. I run mine with a 200mm...

I built my Slayer with a 200mm DH38 for the park but left the 12spd drivetrain and managed to squeeze a 240mm dropper on there. Was shocked at how well it actually still pedaled (~37lbs with coil shock, full cush core, ochain, heavy duty tires) and have been riding that 90% of the time, even in rides with decent amount of climbing (1200m vert and more). Might not be for everyone and their needs but it helps that the trails in my 'backyard' justify such a bike and it's been a blast as a primary driver.

Really impressive riding from these athletes. Very smooth riding, massive air, sketchy steeps and deadly exposure. Pure Rampage!

I gotta say, those ladies were sure killing it. Robin's run was incredible (and she did it again on her victory lap!), Cami's chute was crazy (and to do that twice!). Great runs by everyone, they all looked calculated and controlled. El Presidente drop is still insane.

Andreas Kolb’s 2025 World Cup Season: A Tale of Two Halves The first half of Kolb’s 2025 was not what one might have expected from him, especially considering that from 2022-2024 he finished 4th, 5th, and 6th in the Overall: In the first 5 races of 2025 he managed only one top 10 finish, failed to qualify for one race and got a DNF in another. After 5 races he was 21st in the Overall standings, with only 248 points. Then something clicked, and he put together a super-solid second half: In the final 5 races he had 2 podiums...

I agree with many of you that it was quite strange that Loïc didn’t make it to the podium. “But”, the location of the gondola and podium are not close. He would have had to walk for a bit along the base of the mountain and then head up the hill to the podium through the crowd. It would have been very difficult for him seeing how he was walking in the above video.

it's so fascinating that just tenths and even hundredths are determining so many places now. richie missing the show by .156, jewett even closer, just .039 off of qualifying. top 5 elite women w/in .360 of a second. if they crossed the line at 25mph, that's 36 feet to cram in 5 riders. it's mind boggling. and on a track like MSA where it seems like so much could go wrong (or right). 5 billion rocks to hang up on and slow a rider down, but they're all SO close. tomorrow will be a great show!

I went shuttling finale with my ebike, mostly because it's my only bike at the moment, but also Finale have been incredibly smart to promote the "Guiding" culture where the value isn't just the uplift but having someone to help choose which trails to tide and show them to you. The numbers you guys are quoting for bike park access are just mind-blowing to us broke Europeans: all my local bike parks in France (Valberg, Roubion, Isola, smaller but still known parks with ~10 tracks each) cost €16 for the bike park and €30 for skiing. But I'm pretty sure...

this is the (V)Anzac spirit in full force. You the man Mic! For those wondering, ANZAC is Australian New Zealand Army Corps which was derived in WW1 as we fought together, it is a spirit of brotherhood despite not knowing the other person but having a common goal. It warms the cockles of my heart knowing the spirit remains strong.

Because you can do well over 3000 meters of descending with a shuttle. An ebike won't cut that. A lot of people thus still shuttle. And they shuttle with their primary bike, which is an ebike. You can also do a single or dual uplift and combine it with riding uphill in between to get you into the sticks. A few years ago we usually drop up to the top (gained about 1000 meters of altitude) then rode a big loop back down to the apartment by the seaside doing about 1000 to 1500 m of climbing along the way...

I think the problem with a bike park is that you need to open/start with enough fun trails for every ability to keep customers coming back from the get go. If a park is established, it has to be way more cost-effective than winter operations. You have no grooming costs, no snowmaking, significantly less operational lifts, limited lessons/coaching compared to winter, less patrollers, no snow safety costs (avalanche mitigation), etc, etc. The problem is that most American resorts/hills only dip their toes in. They build a couple trails, riders come try them for a day, then don’t need to come...

This marks an interesting shift in the thread, from product to experience. One of the most fascinating things about bikes is that the experience itself is (usually) free. You find a trail, ride it, and that’s it. That dynamic underpins the entire culture of cycling and, using some very special “boy math,” justifies spending far more on bikes each year than logic might otherwise allow. (ask me if you need help in this category lol) Personally, I haven’t ridden in a bike park in years, outside of races. But this thread pushed me to build a quick model to see...
