11/29/2025 9:16pm In case anyone is still using the OEM plastic tubeless strips that come on Bontrager rims, those are equivalent to ~4 layers of tubeless tape. It also makes the center channel narrower and won't allow both beads of DH tires to sit in the channel at the same time, a recipe for frustration. Replacing that with 1 layer of tubeless tape is the first step.

11/29/2025 9:07pm Thank you everyone for the solidarity. Update for today. Attempt number I don’t know what anymore I’ve lost count. The friction of rubber on gorilla tape is like it has glued itself the the bead of the Tyre and it takes me over an hour just to get the bead of the Tyre to move away from edge of the rim and drop into the rim bed. I’m so sweaty I look like I’ve just got out of a pool and my thumbs and forearms are no longer useable body parts. I work in concrete construction everyday and this is...

11/29/2025 8:20pm Rode a set of Maven Silvers for a bit this fall. As Robot noted- they were to on/off for me, even with a pair of well used Centerline 200mm rotors and resin pads. They are extremely powerful and they are also really quiet and I found the lever pull very easy and smooth. One weird wandering bite point incident on...

11/26/2025 6:41pm You're very entitled to your own opinion, but I didn't hear the same contradictions you did. I've re-listened multiple times this morning and I still can't hear it the way you have. I heard Markus say they knew they were facing tough times but weren't expecting the PE firm to get to a point where they aren't willing to inject cash. The Fire Sale was an effort to get through that specific period without having to ask for more cash. That failed and then they were told 'no more'. As for your previous point, it's not exactly clear to me...

11/25/2025 7:46pm I'm curious to see the development curve on the 32in.. 29 had the interruption of 27.5 and a lot of years trying to make a 29er feel like a 26.. Maybe this time they address what the feel the strengths the 32 are and go at it.. Or, does history repeat itself and we get 30.5 for a minute? Then we end up at 32/30.5 mixed wheels..

11/25/2025 7:46pm Thanks for the math award. I don’t even practice so it’s double nice. We are also very handsome here on the messageboards. That bike is super dumb looking.

11/25/2025 7:36pm I tried to make this clear in my follow-up audio note, but I’m really not trying to throw shade at @Downtime Podcast or Chris. Two things can be true: Chris is one of the best hosts in the MTB world, and the Markus episode missed the mark for some of us. No podcast hits a home run every time. Every show I listen to has episodes where I think, “not for me” or “this one whiffed.” That’s normal. And the same is obviously true for my own content. In a way, Chris let Markus make his own bed. Anyone who...

11/25/2025 6:00am Thanks to those who've taken time to write kind words about Downtime. I was expecting to get some hate for this episode as there is definitely a lot of frustration out there on this topic and Markus appears to be a very polarising character. For what it's worth, I put in the time to understand the concerns of the MTB world as much as was possible from forums etc and I believe that all those key points were covered in this interview. I also took time to understand the mechanisms of Private Equity and just why growth is essential and...

11/23/2025 11:22am Yeah. He has great content and personality. It really is a shame that no one has figured-out how to cover enduro in an interesting way. Most gravity bikes sold are enduro bikes, and, I'd guess that on a local level, enduro racing is still popular. But translating World Cup Enduro to a television audience has just never been done well. I think my initial comment about "looking for a sport" may have sounded unkind. It wasn't meant to be--really just a sad reaction to what seems like the slow death of what really is a great sport. I got to...

Hope he lands on his feet, he is a fantastic ambassador for the sport to the kids of Australia and in all my dealings with him over the years one of the nicest blokes you will ever meet. What you see in the videos is him in reality, a true legend.

11/23/2025 11:21am Sad update, knowing its not sorted yet (and how messy the end obviously would have been). Would love for him to do a random enduro+DH program akin to Rude and Melamed's end of season but... Understand how impractical that is. Especially traveling from where he is. But glad he's been restin up and getting some paddle outs. No better place to reset the mind then waiting on Poseidon to send you a set...

11/23/2025 11:17am The whole thing just seems so pretentious to me. It’s a bike, not a lifestyle brand. But I guess that’s why I don’t own a YT.

11/23/2025 9:59am Currently have about 5 rides on XX transmission cranks with 55mm chainline, 28t wolf tooth 8 bolt ring, XO transmission cassette, XO chain, 90 derailleur and shifter. Coming off one bike with XTR 12 speed setup and another with XO/GX Eagle cable driven. Both setups work very very well and are very durable. I can shift them both under full...

11/23/2025 9:19am I went from XO Transmission to 90. I love it and find the ergonomics way better than the pod shifter which I sometimes shifted the wrong way. I’m not a shifter snob and find the 90 shifter perfectly fine. I literally never think about it while riding. Hopefully it plays well with my Dominions once I have time to swap out the Mavens.

11/22/2025 6:37am @Digit Bikes great post, really appreciate you sharing this! As to the Felt question, I honestly can't tell you. Robot might have a better feel, but outside the Felt acquisition by Pierer Mobility during COVID, I don't have a ton of insight into how big they were. @ebikepartyshirt, CAST Touring and SNDR Products (different brands, same company, technically). We're in the process of building a new manufacturing facility here in the Tetons, which has me banging nails (or rather, driving metal screws) a lot of my day until this thing is dried in (see, I do "real work" too sometimes...)...

11/22/2025 6:36am Regarding 30-60-90 day credit terms on components, the bike brands that we know often don't buy directly from component suppliers, instead the assembly factory purchases parts using their creditworthyness with the component manufacturers. An assembly factory may then extend credit to the brand. Less frequently (though not infrequently) bike brands import frames and assemble locally (you mentioned YT did this), this can save them from holding a depreciating inventory of components by acquiring them just in time, and it can allow them to offer multiple build levels or model years based on whatever frames they have available. There have been...
