I think the real reason for this is 'it's easier to use an existing fork than machine our own fixed legs'. This setup seems like it would be harder to tune and more unpredictable to ride, because you never know which spring will be compressing, and what the axle path will be doing.

My 2cents. I raced the 'prototype' tire in Chatel, after testing it at home, and was extremely happy with it. It shrugged off some gross impacts and felt good doing it. I'm running DT Swiss so that might help too.

I think its because in the past there has been enough ebike performance debates in this forum. It does not really offer much for Tech Rumors and Innovation of future products. Otherwise derailment would happen and poppa Sspomer will have to take off his belt.

The best case study in our world (sort of) for this is Peloton. They were the goldenchild of the pandemic, only to realize they literally made enough stationary bikes for the entire market and stopped production (fully). Stock was at $150 at the peak. $5.00 (not a typo) today. Point I'm trying to make, most people in a position of management at any company wants to believe it is their operating ability, not market beta, that is the real cause for success. Add to this bonuses and incentives that keep the gravy train going and its hard to see why...

Just to add a little more broad business nerd color and context to what Robot is saying, there are two ways to raise capital for any business. Take a loan (debt) or sell "part of your company" to investors (equity). TBH, I don't know if many companies were really ever able to take on much debt, being banks usually secure their long term notes in one way or another. Maybe a handful of companies are way out over their skis with respect to their credit facilities, but I'd bet this is not the contagion in the bike industry we'll see...

If you're seriously suggesting that the coverage of racing this year has had more of an impact on bike companies than the global economy and recovery from the pandemic you are absolutely dreaming. There have been multiple stories over the past 18-24 months about how companies have been paying more for stock/production/shipping than before, increasing their retail prices dramatically, and forecasting way higher sales and ordering inventory accordingly. Heres my take on it, if youre building a short travel bike, thats not intended primarily for XC riding/racing, a HP makes a tonne of sense. You still get the added benefit of a "platform" earlier in the travel, which can feel more sprightly and responsive, but with additional bump eating capabilities. Case in point would be the Forbiedden Druid past and present. There is a portion of riders who arent interested in the steepest and deepest, but still ride hard enough on chundery trails that this makes sense.
