@sspomer when is bikes unaffiliated leaning into typical podcast discussions of wild conspiracy theories? I mean how can the HT guy not be a plant by WBD to turn the whole fan base against privateers. It's obvious they are a safety hazard...

“The Formula 1 of bicycles!!!” If this crap is true about Hardtail Dude being involved in Wyn’s crash, then being off-pace during Asa’s run, how in TF is the UCI allowing this? Could Asa, Amaury, or Loic put a hardtail inside the top 30? If the answer is no, then there should be a minimum equipment spec to be able to enter. Most every sport that involves wheels won’t let you enter elite level races on garbage. If you can come up with the money to go the path of entering a WC Downhill you can afford a DH bike...

I forgot Pinion uses the name Motor-Gearbox-Unit, here I am thinking everyone was talking about Motor-GENERATOR- Units 😅 I would love to see someone make a crack at harvesting energy from braking or the suspension - I figure it could be a small equaliser for heavier riders who would normally have much less battery range available And @jeff.brines maybe we do need an Avinox thread, I was reading through all this and thought it was the ebike thread.....😬

I'm not sure if this is an indication it's close to release, but Norco just posted pics of the dh bike ahead of Korea and it's got "Team DH" printed on the top tube. Would be cool (and make sense) if they went back to the Team DH name for the race bike.

Any chance we can take this ebike power rules chat to a new thread? A few pages ago it was fascinating reading about Alta's struggle and DJI's structure vs old school German power.

I clicked that video for a laugh and a trip down memory lane, but yo Laurie is straight up destroying on that old bike and flat pedals. Super impressive and entertaining riding on any bike. RIPPING.

All good questions. I'll raise another: licensing for a motorcycle (in Oregon at least) required attending an in-person safety class for multiple weeks and passing a check ride. Surely we're not going to ask 16 year olds to do all that to ride to 7-11. Or maybe we are? I agree that the jump in regulations from a bicycle (almost none) to a motorcycle (which is similar to a car in the eyes of the law) is pretty big. Like I said, it's currently the wild west and I'm watching with curiosity how the regulatory landscape develops around all these...

Not sure where to put this, and frankly a little bummed it's not already on the main page. Laurie Greenland posted a vid about what he's up to and hinted about future projects and sponsors. Stoked for the guy.

I always saw VPP as Santa Cruz's USP. If it's Yet Another Plain Old Horst Link, what am I getting other than the name that makes it exceptional?

I work on electronics as my day job. Having to set up a clean workstation, ESD mat, microscope, soldering station, etc in a bike shop seems like a nightmare. Plus having to hire someone who is qualified as an electronics technician. I don't see it happening. It would be nice if the manufacturers stepped up and were reconditioning these motors instead of throwing them away, but there is no profit in that, so it will continue to happen.

At a shop level, there's just a lack of capability in repairs for electric motors. You'd have to start hiring and training at an entirely new level that does not exist currently and will constantly keep shifting over the new few years. Other than a few weeks long courses, the only real training out there for shop staff is time and the older guy in the bike shop they work with and that guy doesn't exist yet for ebikes. IC engines have had that support structure for 100 years now. Most bike shops are only just now in the last...

Race fans, today is a good day for content! Starring Jackson Goldstone and produced in collaboration with Anthill Films, The Search for Milliseconds documents the dramatic journey of the youngest rider in history to claim the UCI Downhill Elite overall title. From pre-season testing to start gate tension, the film follows Jackson and his support team as they hunt for every millisecond that can make or break a champion.
