It’s pretty silly to say any size is too big or to small because that’s subjective, and im guilty of being sarcastically subjective just a page or so back! But id like to think that most manufacturers by now would be doing reasonable sizing increments 5 sizes = 425, 450, 475, 500, 525 or 4 sizes = 430,460,490,520 with +/- 5mm reach adjust - of course this is just some made up numbers so play with it as you will.

Or like all gas powered cars (and trucks) ended up with turbo 4 cyl engines. Best configuration for the job (Edit: according to the product manager and bean-counters).

Gonna agree with this, give me "boring" but good geo and kinematics and looks, but give me decent value and warranty. Obviously this would apply to a lot of the main brands, plenty of smaller players can do the niche stuff...

Interesting take- I'm kinda the opposite. I like seeing the convergence of designs and features. At this point companies have to sweat the details and provide superior value to get business. I want a reliable, good value that does what it's supposed to do... Don't care if the bike is different or rare.

I did a test this weekend with and without countershox on the bike. Nothing else was changed besides one on the fork and one on the seattube. The feeling in my hands was night and day more comfortable with Countershox. I was running data sensors on the bike for suspension, axles, bb and headtube of frame. This graph is a snippet showing the front axle movement compared to handlebar movement in vertical direction. Red is bars and Yellow is axle. You can see the bottom graph between big hits the bars are moving vertically much less. The peaks of the...

So it took me way to long to stitch these together and export it properly, but I did this test with the tyre at 18psi and 26psi, the 18psi gave the best result. Using parts on hand like some springs around 11.8 N/mm, a 250g mass and a 600g(250+350) mass. (*edit using the 2 opposing springs halves the rate so more like 6 N/mm) The wheel alone is about 1800g so total system about 2.4kg Tyre rates are roughly 35N/mm @ 18psi and 44N/mm at 26psi BUT they are slightly progressive in the first few mm plus I trimmed the...

Hmm, not sure why you assume I’m “not running proper equipment.” My bike is built for riding in legit terrain where shit can go sideways. Thankfully, it rarely ever does - exactly because I “run proper equipment” - but if/when shit does happen I want at least a fighting chance of riding my bike out of the woods. I’ll take the minimal weight penalty of some bits and pieces rather than hiking out.

The median income of Vital’s readers has almost doubled in that same time! Even adjusting for inflation that’s a lot.

Go look at inflation, high end bikes have always been expensive. In 2004, an SWorks Enduro was $4800. (Around $8500 today). In 2009, an SWorks Epic was $8800. (Approximately $13,000 today) I don’t understand why everyone suddenly thinks the sky is falling. Next everyone will be complaining that $250,000 for a Huraćan is insane because a Countach used to be $100,000. It’s not like you were going to buy one anyway.

I can confirm that the Elite Men's field has a very robust list of top WC pros alongside all of the Domestic Pros from the US. The Women's field is by far and away stronger than any North American race I've ever seen outside of the World Cup rounds (Mont St Anne, Windham, Snowshoe). Way more stacked women's field than Crankworx Whistler. This replay show is going to be a must watch!

I'm trying to think of a clever quip about the price and appearance of this stuff... But honestly nothing's coming to me. I just feel dumb and poor and a bit confused, I guess. Welp, back to the clearance store to buy more Adidas running clothes...
